Unable to sign in

Sign in has always been an issue with The Information on web, and the issue continue to appears on the so-called smooth new app. Not getting sign in emails despite trying multiple times.

Annoying feature

Mostly good app but really annoying feature when you exit an article you get automatically taken to the top of the feed. Super annoying need to fix

Can’t access paid subscription

I paid $400 for an annual subscription but can’t reliably use their Sign in with Google to access it. No support contact that i could find. Might have to dispute with my credit card company to get a refund.

Magic link logins suck

Insecure, and really annoying. Magic links are awful all around. Just let me use a passkey managed by my password manager of choice and don’t force me to open my inbox to login.

No bookmarks, no night mode

It’s a mix of funny and embarrassing that a publication known (and branded) for tech journalism can’t build basic features in their mobile news app.

Content is good, tends to skew consumer tech.

Too expensive, mediocre app

The reporting is solid enough just don’t understand the expensive price point for what it is.

Very poor app

No dark mode, app slow to load and crashes from time to time. Don’t know, maybe try some vibe coding?

Paid for subscription, but the app hangs forever for login

The title says it all

Recent update is great

Wrote a scathing review a few months ago but recent update is really good. Best tech reporting out there and now an awesome app. Thanks!

Awful app

I have a subscription but cannot sign in—the app sends a link to my email which then opens in a browser and then the app promptly says the link doesn’t work.

No dark mode (year 3 of request?)

If this were an app about anything other than technology, maybe you could have no dark mode. But it's tech! They should get this! People have been asking for years! I will be deleting the app and using the browser for subscription but will probably let subscription lapse out of fear whoever is in charge of app development is also running the newsroom.

Font sizing abysmal

Can’t decrease the font size without changing font sizes across all my apps. Pretty bad.

Useless

The app forces you to login every time and then logs you back out again after reading one article. Completely unusable.

Shady Subscription Practices

They don’t provide reminders on upcoming billing charges, and don’t provide refunds. So set a calendar reminder if surprise $400+ annual charges aren’t your thing.

Sycophants for big tech

I was expecting The Information would have a deep understanding of how the tech industry works, as well as insider knowledge you couldn’t find in other media. And in that they succeeded. But I was ALSO hoping they would use understanding and knowledge to create hard-hitting journalism that held tech to account like no other publication could. And in that, they failed.

The Information just fawns over and fetes tech, like everybody in the tech echo chamber wants and expects (and I say this as a tech insider). Sadly, this is just yet another VC newsletter self-aggrandizing tech. There’s no real journalism going on here. Too bad, as we’re in desperate need of someone knowledgeable who can finally hold our industry to account.

App still buggy

Email an article to someone, and after that, screen goes blank and app has to be rebooted.

Truly sad that the product of a company that specializes in the tech scene and charges an arm and a leg can’t get its act together on a basic mobile news app.

They play hardball on the annual rebill

Pro tip: Cancel your subscription immediately after signing up. Let them lure you back with a discount each year. (They will as their tactics smell of desperation) Otherwise, they will jack up your bill by $100 each year once they get you.

Awful onboarding

Pathetic for a tech media company. GET SOME PROFESIONAL DESIGNERS....DUH

Dark mode!!!

How hard is it for a mobile app in 2024 to implement a dark mode? Especially a reading app?! What’s the point of this app if reading it in a browser provides a more pleasant experience?
