Flat Out Doesn't Work -- Device is un-usable
Was there any testing done at all before this was released? This isn't just finicky, it's completely unusable, no matter how careful you are in your movements. There is no "trick" to get the hang of. The app cannot effectively sync state with Chess.com app. You cannot take a piece, making gameplay impossible. Even when you avoid taking, when playing an opponent on Chess.com, the board moves the wrong pieces in response to a move. Seems there was a rush to produce a working product after shipping the devices with an app update on Christmas Eve. Kudos for working over the holidays, at least. I can understand the rush, given that people have waited 4-5 years since making a purchase and I'm sure the developers just wanted to deliver something. Too bad that something is a very expensive brick. Hopefully a patch will come out that will make the product functional.

Horrible terrible awful bad app
This phantom chess board is terrible awful & horribly bad. It does a horrible bad job. Every time a computer makes a move it doesn’t automated move. Capturing a piece is no good extremely bad & horrible. Do not use the phantom chess board & it’s app period.
Doesn’t work
Just received my Phanton chessboard. Downloaded the app. Cannot use it. Cannot scan like the instructions tell you to do. Useless. How do I use my board without the app??

A frustrating app. Half the time it doesn’t work and the layout is very clumsy. Doesn’t play the historical games that it supposedly has in its memory.

Some legal moves not allowed!
I have attempted to play against the computer on my Phantom board several times, and was inevitably thwarted by it not allowing me to make a legal move—including, but not limited to castling.
Buggy and doesn’t work
The app stops communicating with the board after a short time and now it won’t play against stock fish at all. The app indicates a move, but it’s like the board never receives the information that it’s supposed to do anything. Also there’s icons in the library with no indication as to what they do, some sort of shuffle option it appears? Also half the time the buttons don’t work and do nothing. Needs work.

Ok but not great
Needs work. It misses some moves and makes for frustrating gameplay, especially when games are timed and you have to make the move over and over to get it recognized.
Software bugs
The app keeps forgetting where pieces are placed and the firmware does not know how to respond when I am trying to take an enemy piece. The hardware is great the software needs improvements fast though.
App freezes
App gives the message “Center the captured pieces” during setup and never recovers. Chessboard is useless as a result.
They delivered on their promise
It works, looking forward to updates.
Still waiting
Haven’t received my board. Every month another delay, now updates to the app have stopped for months.
