The Winning Move

Every puzzle here is a real position from a real game, stopped one move before the sacrifice that decided it. Your job is to find that move. Each position has been checked with a strong engine: one correct move, and after it the attack wins or it is mate outright. How it plays Tap a piece, then tap the square it goes to. A wrong move is played on the board anyway and the opponent answers it, so you see what went wrong instead of being told. The board rewinds and you try again. Nothing is taken away from you for guessing. Three hints, and you choose when to spend them: which piece moves, which square it stands on, and then the move itself. A path, not a heap Puzzles are grouped into five chapters, from Apprentice to Master. Solve five to open the next five. If one position beats you, look at the answer and move on. It still counts.
