Butchered by user experience
I don’t know what they did to this once useful app, but it’s disgraceful. Extremely clumsy, buggy and overall simply maddening to use. This is an overdeveloped and over-algorithmic nightmare.
Scam
They charged me for everything—supposedly costs I was supposed to cover for a client. First, it was $28 one morning; I thought, "Fine, I'll activate the account." Then came a $38 charge, supposedly for some client—even though I hadn't submitted a bid for that service or rejected it. Then I decided to adjust the sliders for my services, and they IMMEDIATELY deducted another $37 from my card. My bank is looking into it now. It was a terrible, nerve-wracking experience. The support staff are awful; it took three tries before one young woman actually helped me! The others just hung up because they were incompetent. And even then, my problem wasn't solved. It’s nothing but a scam.

I’ve had two great service techs in a row, in two separate states by utilizing thumbtack
E&P Seal Coating
$1900 for worst seal job ever. They won’t give us a repair date even though they agreed they “were not pleased” with the job they performed and would come out to repair it. No dates given to us for repair even though I have written to them several times over the last week. They insisted on cash payment and now we know why.

The inbox isn't very responsive, and the app should include a quote feature. How can a customer submit a dispute if the job has issues later on?

This App is a Scam
Do not believe the app reviews. Go online and look at the real reviews. I spoke to one “contractor” and it was clearly a scam. I feel sorry for vulnerable people who are in need of assistance. Use at your own risk.
Extremely Poor Service
I’ve never left a review on any app ever but the way this app works irks me a lot. It has a million services hidden behind a seemingly advanced but incredibly unintuitive search system. The app is trying to use AI to do too many things all at once & does them all poorly while thinking it’s extremely intelligent, it combines a dozen different unrelated categories into one app where nothing is easy to get to for any reason. For instance I am searching for a business by name that I know is listed on there that has absolutely nothing to do with building or any type of home construction or work but instead of it searching for what I ask for it asked me 10 totally unrelated questions that even in the context of construction have nothing to do with each other then brings up the search results which don’t even show the business name that I searched for! How this app has almost 500k good reviews is beyond me, absolutely astounding. Nothing makes sense, I tried searching for a dance studio & instead of showing me dance studios it asks me what type of property a dance studio is; an office, a restaurant, retail, medical facility, or a school / place of worship… okay confusing but let’s select retail… how often do you want your business cleaned? What? How did my search in any way jump to this conclusion? This is just one of a dozen major complaints. In no way could I find the multiple businesses I searched for at all, even when the person inviting me to use the app sent me a direct link it just sent me to the main index! Super great idea for an app but super poor execution & design, very frustrating to use! I recommending leaning away from letting AI design your entire app!

AI destroyed it
Used to be you could skim by search terms for everyone who does that work. Now their Ai let us select 3 people for you means you have to work around it just to see who else is out there. You can't turn off Ai selections.

Used to be good but no way to just browse - forced into garbage prompts and recos instead of just letting me doing a basic search/browse of categories/vendors
I found an awesome contractor through Thumbtack!
Because of this app I was able to get several bids on a flooring job that I needed done. After interviewing several contractors I found the perfect installer. Because of thumbtack’s easy to use app I had no problems finding a contractor and staying in contact with him. I recommend this app for anyone who is looking for a professional to help them with their project.

Thumbtack Is a Waste of Money
DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS APP!
My experience with Thumbtack has been terrible. This app is extremely expensive and, in my opinion, not worth it at all for someone starting a cleaning business. They charge you automatically for leads, even when customers don’t respond, don’t book you, or you never get the job.
They claim that if a customer doesn’t respond, you may get your money back, but that was NOT my experience. I spent about $325 on leads in just one week and only got ONE job worth $350. After all those lead charges, I barely made anything.
This is a huge waste of money, especially for a new small business trying to get started. I would NOT recommend Thumbtack to anyone. Think twice before putting your money into this app.

Knows what he’s doing
I had a faucet that was so difficult to Remove. I could not believe that anyone would put a faucet on a sink without leaving the proper wrench to get the off a faucet. he figured it out how to get the faucet off and it was amazing how he finished the job
