Timegrapher — Watch Accuracy

IS IT MAGNETIZED? A magnetized hairspring is the most common reason a mechanical watch suddenly starts gaining time — and until now the app could tell you the watch was running fast without telling you why. Timegrapher can now screen for it using the iPhone's magnetometer. It reads the background magnetic field, then reads it again with the watch held against the back of the phone, and reports what the watch is carrying. A clear result means look elsewhere; a strong one means demagnetize before you judge anything else. Every check is kept, so a before-and-after pair shows whether the demagnetizer actually did its job. AIRPODS Bluetooth microphones compress audio down to voice quality, which strips out the tick sounds Timegrapher listens for. The app now notices them before you start and tells you to take them out. A wired earbud pressed against the case is unaffected — that one is a genuinely good technique. Previously an amount entered as "9.150" could be stored as 9.15 — a hundredth of its value. If you have logged prices that look wrong, they can be corrected by editing the entry. • Charts showed the same year repeated across the axis when several measurements fell in one year; they now step down to months, days or times as the span requires. • Buying and restoring Timegrapher Pro is more robust, and now explains itself if the App Store can't be reached instead of appearing to do nothing. • New setup illustrations for the measurement and magnetism screens. • Assorted layout fixes where longer watch names or messages could be clipped.
