About
A PERSONAL TINNITUS PROGRAMME, BUILT ON A CLINICAL MODEL
About 1 in 7 adults hear tinnitus, a ringing in the ears. For some people it has no effect on daily life, while others experience a strong impact on theirs.
If tinnitus is costing you sleep, or you notice tension building the moment the house goes quiet, you are in the group Tinzo was built for. It was made with a clinical neuropsychologist, more than a dozen tinnitus professionals, and people who hear the ringing in their own ears every day.
HOW THE PROGRAMME IS BUILT
You start by understanding the sound: what tinnitus is, what your brain is doing with it, and why it gets louder in a silent room than in a busy one. Knowing the mechanism takes a lot of the threat out of it.
From there you get things to do. Short breathing and attention exercises of a few minutes. Ways to deal with tinnitus at the moments you find the impact most noticeable.
Then the part that matters most in the long run: getting your evenings, your work and the busy birthday party back, with the sound present but no longer in charge of the schedule.
The order is not fixed. Your answers at the start decide which modules come first, so you do not sit through chapter one when your problem is sleep.
WHAT IS INSIDE
• Psycho-education to understand tinnitus
• Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) exercises to look at the place tinnitus has in your life
• Mindfulness to find calm, and tools for sleeping with tinnitus
• Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) exercises to work towards a life you live by your own values
• Community support: a built-in community of people with tinnitus and tinnitus experts
WHY TINZO AND NOT ANOTHER APP
Tinzo is a CE-marked medical device (Class I, MDR 2017/745), built on the clinical model of neuropsychologist Olav Wagenaar, whose Dutch tinnitus handbook is now in its 16th edition. Audiologists, ENT specialists and psychologists work with the same model in their practices. You get the same model, minus the waiting list.
WHO IT IS FOR
Anyone with tinnitus, whether it started three weeks ago or fifteen years back. On its own, or next to your audiologist, ENT specialist or psychologist.
There is no cure for tinnitus, and Tinzo does not promise you silence. What can change is how much attention, alarm and space the sound gets in your day.
QUESTIONS PEOPLE ASK
Is Tinzo a white noise or masking app?
Tinzo is a habituation programme, so it works on how much attention and alarm the sound gets instead of covering it up with other sound.
Do I need a referral?
You can use Tinzo on your own, without a referral as Tinzo is self-help, and works well alongside other care.
Does Tinzo replace my doctor or therapist?
Tinzo is meant to complement care, not replace your doctor or therapist. You're welcome to discuss using it with your GP or care provider, so everything fits together.
How does Tinzo handle my data?
We treat health data in line with the GDPR, with the care that requires. Details are in our privacy statement.
