Best app for learning Chinese characters!!
I am so lucky I found this app!!! Other ones didn’t have everything I needed or were so expensive :( This one is fun to use and has examples, stroke order, and breaks down each character. My only complaint is that I didn’t start using it sooner! THANK YOU DEVELOPERS!!!!!!!!

A free skritter alternative! Only thing missing is a dark mode, otherwise it is perfect.
I can’t believe I haven’t heard of this app before
I never write reviews but this app is a godsend. I’ve used Anki in the past and started using memrise courses because I like the UI when learning. This is the best of both worlds, and even better in some ways.
Perfect for Chinese writing practice!
I'm amazed this is free. Especially on the iPad with a pencil, the writing decks are (imo) actively fun to practice, not to mention effective. No complaints so far!
Good but…….
There’s options in the lesson thing where you can select words, ignore them or review selected. I accidentally pressed selected all, including words I never learned so now whenever I review words I get the ones I never learned. And I can’t unlearn it also if I ignore it I’ll never learn the words and if I don’t ignore them and press learn new words I get new words rather than those words I never end learned so I would like to see an option where you can unlearn words so you can review it later on

Great for learning Chinese characters!!
This is my go-to app for learning Chinese characters! There’s explanations in the app about how compound words and single characters are constructed, which are really helpful for triggering my memory. All around a great app for spaced repetition language learning flashcards!
Tracking
There is no way to remove this app from your Apple ID account. It stays on your device and tracks you.
Connection issues
Great functionality for a free app but regularly doesn’t load (it says it failed to connect to the server)
the best app to learn Mandarin
This is by far the best app out there to learn Mandarin vocabulary and writing ! Excellent interface! Character decomposition, example sentences, stroke order , SRS! I tried so many different things: Skritter, different Flashcards apps. But none of them have everything I need! Either character decomposition is not there or no examples of usage or no writing and stroke order is missing. TOFU learn has everything and it’s nicely cleanly presented and organized! TOFU learn should be used by everyone who wants to learn Mandarin vocabulary, usage and writing! Thank you, developers for this wonderful product !

Absolutely Brilliant!
I have just started learning Mandarin and I am using the Heisig method for learning the characters. This app is hands down the best to import your Anki deck and get right to practicing - including writing practice. 5 stars!
Offline mode please
Great app, the only thing it's missing is offline mode. Would be willing to pay if it was bundled with premium.

I never write reviews but this is by far the most convenient writing app that I have ever found and it is also way more convenient than writing on paper。I have been using Chinese Skill for learning sentences and this is perfect for addressing and reinforcing individual characters。
Best Chinese SRS
Better than most SRS for Chinese because has access to a built in dictionary. Also, for a small fee each month, you can get audio for your flash cards. All this means that you can make information dense and quality flash cards with extreme ease
I’m sad
I’ve been using this app for almost 3 years and everything was perfect. Until I updated my phone to iOS 14. Now all the letters and words are all bunched together and I can’t make out what anything says. Sadly I feel this app is finally coming to an end. It hasn’t even been updated in two years.
Too Labor Intensive to Make Personal Vocabulary Decks
This app is definitely one of the best Chinese learning apps I’ve downloaded. That being said, there are a few things that need improvement:
Vocabulary Decks:
- Make it easier to create and edit decks on the mobile app
- Integrate a dictionary into the app in order to create decks more smoothly
- Have pre-recorded audio files to add to decks available for mobile use (not just on the computer)

Addictive in a good way
Love this app. i stopped practicing written Chinese two years ago when my son was born. I'm always too busy or tired to study these days, but got Tofu a couple weeks ago and it has turned practice into something fun i can do on the go. Finally getting back into hsk5 again thanks to tofu.
Just what I wanted in a language study app/site!
I stumbled upon this site/app while searching for a WaniKani equivalent for traditional Chinese character studying and boy did it deliver! I’m very happy that it has traditional Chinese characters and also sets for studying other languages like Japanese and Spanish too! I think you can even make your own sets to study from, but so far I’ve just been using the user uploaded ones and they’ve done me well. Highly recommend for anyone looking for an SRS study system for multiple languages! :)

Fantastic for Mandarin
It’s a very rare occasion for me to leave a review, but this app is exceptional. It’s great for character recognition and writing. Can’t say enough good about this app.
Service Down
Amazing app, but unfortunately it doesn’t work when their server (or something) is down, which it has been for a couple days. I’ll edit my review once it’s back up.
