I deleted this app because… (OLD FASHIONED MAPS)
Useful but needs work
There are plenty of positives. The app is beautifully designed, the maps are clear and detailed, and the live traffic data is genuinely useful.
The biggest problem is the search function. For example, searching for Metrocentre, one of the largest shopping centres in the UK, can bring up an obscure location instead. Finding the place you actually want often takes far too much effort. Even after saving a location as a favourite, it still does not appear at the top of the results.
Because the search is unreliable, I tend to rely heavily on favourites. Unfortunately, there is no backup or restore option. This means all saved locations could disappear after an update, reinstall, or accidental uninstall.
Overall, this is a well-designed app with excellent maps and useful traffic information, but the search and favourites system seriously let it down.
Response from developer
Hi Shwany, thank you for your detailed feedback. We're glad you find the app beautifully designed, the maps clear and detailed, and live traffic genuinely useful. Search ranks by proximity, which can surface unexpected places over popular ones. We've noted this to improve ranking. Favourites priority is logged for enhancement. We understand that you would like to access the saved data through your TomTom cloud account. It is not currently supported by this app, however, we will consider adding this functionality in the future. Thanks for your support. Drive safe, ^Jas

Broken trash as of June 2026
Ok- Lacks some significant items like making multiple stop routes.
But the integration to CarPlay for Apple is horrendous. you can NOT zoom in and out using your figures on a pinch function nor swipe the map: you have to use the arrows to move and the plus/minus buttons to zoom. AND you can’t get to those without tapping a small little area on the screen. The June 2026 update had now broken the movements: it shifts the map in MASSIVE chunks, which often mean nowhere near your route (e.g. routing in PA, but arrows move the map to NJ). So you cannot have a fine level of control anymore. it’s horrible!
When the app shows you the route Options. there are these big thick blue lines which also erase details so you don’t know necessarily what some of the roads are that it wants to take you on. Oh and you cannot zoom in on the map to see the route options - it only zooms to the end point no matter what! so, if you want to figure out what roads of the particular route option are, you have to choose one route and THEN move around the map, and if you don’t like that, you have to CANCEL the route and select a new one through the entire “search” process of putting an address in and looking for routes.
For those who want to search for stops along the route, or multiple stops, you cannot! it is one stop only! (Unlike Apple
Maps) if you need to go anywhere else or see somewhere along the route, you have to END your route, search for what you want, select it, and route to it, and then when there put your original destination back in. unbelievable!
I don’t like that I have to pay for my in-car system navigation map, updates, and traffic, but I’m about to based on just how bad this app actually helps me. I’m not a big fan of the Apple app, but that actually is some degree quite a bit better than this one.
Seems ok not sure if there are any charges?

Not as good as I remember
2 issues there. If I’d paid for (all I can see is trick “go” but when you look, there’s car pricing at £20 pa) would the TT paid app do what “Tom” does? Only better. With nav.
Wouldn’t it make sense for Tom buyers to have flyover included but option for paid upgrade to “go”? I’d take it. Currently considering returning the hardware
Ex private hire driver, heavy user of TomTom hardware.
Now iOS and Apple Maps.
Bought Tom device, now have TomTom navigation software installed for car play.
Can’t seem to see how to set it as a default, nor how to ask Siri to navigate somewhere using TomTom
From the CarPlay Tt app I don’t seem to be able to speak to it to set home address for example, or destination. I can search POI’s but that’s not what I want!
Tom device is interesting, I like seeing accurate road speed limits. But it means having TT map open, even tho Apple map is navigating.
Unlike Ooonie it isn’t showing me mobile camera hot spots, but maybe that’s because I’ve no route set.
Yes I’ve looked at settings in phone for default apps (doesn’t list mapping) and in TT app for helpful options.

Hi there, thanks for reconnecting and for your loyalty as a long-time TomTom user. Please go through the below points: (a) You can connect the Tom (Tom by TomTom) with the app on your phone → Plan a route on the app → you'll hear voice instructions from the app and alerts (traffic/hazards/speed cameras) via the Tom device. (b) The TomTom App and TomTom GO Expert app are designed with different purposes and built on different software. The GO subscription (£20/year) includes full turn-by-turn navigation with CarPlay support — yes, it will serve your need for complete navigation. If you have any further questions, please check this link of FAQs https://help.tomtom.com/hc/categories/33618086201362-Tom-by-TomTom. The stars they do earn relate to the fact that one this is free with no ads. And two: it does well with giving you the traffic colors all over so you can help see ahead any bad traffic. It also does well with giving you lots of options for marking road issues.

Very frustrating
UPDATE: I don’t understand? There is no speaker icon on this app. When the app is in the foreground it tells me about cameras and roadworks, but no navigation instructions. My car does not have CarPlay but all sounds are streamed to car speakers. I’m using iPhone 15+ and iOS 26.5.
UPDATE: I have run this with Bluetooth disabled. It speaks all instructions and warnings.
Yet another UPDATE: I tried this again today, with Bluetooth connected. It worked perfectly. Route directions, traffic warnings. All working properly. There have been no updates, so what happened?
Response from developer
Thanks for your reply, Tommy. HFP (Hands-Free Profile) functionality is currently not available, which may be causing this behaviour. However, it has been noted for future improvements. Please try using the app directly on your phone with Bluetooth turned off and see how it works. Kindly keep us updated and let us know about your experience. ^Jas
