New update killed the app
I have used this app for years, even worked around the camera focus problem and now the update to fix the focus problem has made it impossible to scan any barcodes. The focus is great, but no barcode outline is created so no barcodes are recognized. The update killed the app.
Not Scanning
Similar to some other reviewers, the most recent update resulted in the app not scanning barcodes at all (but they’re not blurry either). I’m running this on iOS 26.6 on iPhone 15 Pro. Hoping for a quick fix!
App continues with problems
A recent update indicated the blurry image which would not allow the scanning of a barcode was fixed. It has not as of 8/22/26. The app is great, when it works. I hope it gets fixed soon.
Update Made Scanner Worse!
I had experienced the blurry camera for several months and was excited that the recent update “fixed” the problem — until I attempted to use it today. The camera does not scan at all! The + appears, but it does not read the barcode! I tried several times in various lighting and also restarted the app a number of times. Please fix it!!!!!

Time For Update
I find this app to be very helpful. You can bag your groceries right after scanning each item while shopping, and you don’t have to wait in cashier line and you don’t have to scan item by item at the end of your shopping trip. It’s a true time saver. Unfortunately, since a recent Apple update there have been several problems with the app. The camera becomes unfocused and won’t scan properly. This is frustrating. I also have found the app scans an item twice, even when you only have one. My last three shopping trips I’ve discovered multiple over charges. I even went as far as to count how many items I had in my cart before checking out on my last trip. There were 29 items. When I got home and read the receipt, I had been charged for 33 items. I’ve called Tops repeatedly and they said there was a known issue, but it doesn’t seem like they want to fix it.

I love using this app but it needs serious updating.
Does what it’s supposed to do
I see a lot of negative reviews but I use this app all the time and it works fine. Sometimes you get an error when you scan something but it says you can keep shopping and it will catch up. It always does. Checking out at self checkout by just scanning one code and paying is so much better than playing store employee and holding up the checkout lines.

Seems like it requires a bonus card in order to do anything useful. In addition it requires you to connect to WiFi.

Used the Tops app one time and after that it doesn’t work…. I can’t access the app after several tries so I deleted it. I have several other apps that work just fine.
Don’t waste your time
I’m not new to the scan and check out apps, several other stores execute their versions quite well! This app however is trash. It requires you to connect to Tops Wi-Fi, which is whatever, but every time your phone screen times out you it says it lost connection… which it really doesn’t but you have to hit the back button and then go back in to the scan function.
The big kicker for me though was the app was scanning some of my items 2-3 times! I’m glad I was paying attention or my bill would have been almost double what it should have been. As soon as I realized I gave up on the app and just checked out at a register.

Useless
Literally just crashes as soon as I go to scan. Can’t enter a phone number either for tops bonus, they only want to scan it. Well I don’t have a card so now what? Even if I did, I probably couldn’t scan it because the app was developed like crap

After connecting to store wireless the app continues giving an error saying it can’t connect to the shopping system.

I used this one time successfully and it provided some benefit. The two subsequent trips, it didn't work.
Trip 2:

Yes, I was successfully connected to Tops WiFi and their wifi was working correctly. Alden, NY Tops.

Zero benefit
The app works fine and it the management at Tops didn’t assume that I am a criminal every time I use it it would be fantastic.
Literally every time in the last couple of months I’ve made the mistake of going to Tops I get audited at the register.
What is the value of a time saving app if it costs you more time?
N.B Wegmans has the same app and I have been audited there precisely zero times.
