Sad to see servers terminating services

I’m going to miss this game so much! I started playing several years ago on the Japanese App Store and was so happy when they released it in English.

EoS on August 21st

If you're still interested in playing the game, log in via Japan App Store. Global servers are being shut down due to mismanagement.

The lack of communication from devs about the decision is a huge dissappointment considering we have ongoing events right now that you can pay money on. Devs are just squeezing their playerbase before pulling the plug.

What happened?!

I was away from the game for a while, and when I opened it again, all my data was gone?! And people are saying they’re discontinuing it? So much time and money gone to waste

A warning

They are closing the en and cn servers in August while still promoting buying sales/booster packs that are useless now that they’re shutting down. The reason why i say it is useless is there is no way to transfer your game data after the server closes so don’t waste your money. They also don’t even give a proper explanation for the shutdown of the servers which is upsetting to me and many dedicated members of the tkrb fan community who have been playing for the last two years.

Game termination

I loved this game, but the decision to discontinue service is pretty heartbreaking. Plus there’s no recourse to upload my data to the other version. So a lot of time just wasted.

EN and CN Version Ending Service

No point in getting into it at this point since as of today, devs have announced a sudden EOS, stating that the game is being removed by its global host, Johren, and due to mishandling of licencing, the Global fanbase won't be able to tranfer any of their data to JP. Since this is an old JP game, I doubt any of this will get reversed.

One the one hand, I'm saddened since I spent a good amount of time and money on the game (started Oct 2021) so to see that progress lost is frustrating. I really, REALLY love the sword designs and lore, and it was the one husbando game I could play casually and enjoy since there weren't alot of systems to worry about, just tap and go, and gradually I saw my fav swords become really strong. On the other hand, I had a feeling this would come after the terrible 2.0 update. The game is clearly struggling revenue-wise and I wouldn't be suprised if JP dies off too. The management behind this game is terrible right now, it makes no sense why they have to wipe global's progress, just make an EN servers on your JP client like Granblue Fantasy.

I do not regret getting into TKRB. I'll still buy merch since I love the concept, but my time playing the game has come to an end; I am NOT starting over. It's sad but liberating, since now I have more time to focus on other things, and it's one less live-service game to waste money on.

Big shout out to the EN community for all their guides and support for this game, it has made understanding TKRB alot easier.

Revised Review of Changes

The devs have finally fixed the majority of noticable bugs in the game, but there's still issues that don't involve performance. The new UI design is very bland. In places where there is a ton of white space, they could have added traditional, floral japanese patterns to enhance the composition. Right now, the game just has a really basic feel to it due to the UI, and I think a majority of veteran players, both JP and Global, agree about this, alongside the change to exhaustion.

I still recommend Touken Ranbu to husbando enjoyers/ katana history enthusiasts looking for a collector game they can tap away at while they do something else.

Really?

I didn't want to write this, but as someone who has given money to this game to keep afloat and to keep the NA going as long as possible, the state of all of these changes to the game is ridiculous. There is a game glitching bug where you buy anything from the shop and you get the error 100000 and can't purchase anything. It takes you back to the home screen. Someone actually decided to add an exhausted state and make it FIVE HOURS. Why does this exist? We don't know. Not only that, but since people are experiencing this error code we can't stock up on potions to combat this terrible new mechanic. I don't even want to mention how hideous the new UI is. It's completely messy, way too cluttered and it took me way too long to even figure out where the formation button was. Who is signing the okay to these updates? We don't know. All of this is just ridiculous and sad.

not a fan of the new look

that’s really all there is to say! this is a fun little game for me, but the new layout and design is just boring and doesn’t bring me joy to play!! :( and even if i wanted to spend a little cash for game currency it just gives me an error message and kicks me back to the home screen.

The New Layout

Personally, I like it. I think it’s cute.

It’s a lot more than before, but I find it easier to navigate once I got used to it. It just takes time getting used to, like all things new. I remember there were some errors in translations or boxes looking weird but I feel they’ve all been corrected by now, or will be improved in the future. I very much appreciate the new music for the new functions too it’s nice :D Regarding the new energy/fatigue function, I like how it is now since I can actually see when my swords are about to be tired or not. To me, it’s convenient and easy to understand. I don’t feel like the fatigue function changed much other than that we can visually see the values now.

I do miss the old antiqueness of the old UI, and perhaps it would’ve been nice if we had all these new functions in the style of the old version, but oh well. Green and white is still cute. And technically it makes more sense lore wise since we’re (the player) in some interstellar plane?

Overall, I think it’s neat and organized. The many boxes and tabs may seem overwhelming, but honestly it’s not that bad. More convenient even. Everything pops up on the menu and I only need to press one time to get to where I want. The Honmaru page also has easy access to sortie options, and I could literally see everything from who’s in repair, duties, whatever (aaand basically quick links to repairs and duties too; same as using the menu so it’s whatever I feel like using; no inconvenience)

Maybe we can have a style change in the future though, that would be nice too.

I used to love this game

But after the April 2023 update the game is unreadable and all white and plain and boring in the bane of modern. It’s lost all readable and unique elements. It’s literally unreadable. Imagine everything in light mode. If you have sensitive eyes or trouble with sight and find light text on light backgrounds difficult to read don’t play this game until they fix it.

Best mobile game with beautiful arts

What a bless to finally have this game translated in English! Thanks a lot!
It's not a too addictive game, we can totally play casually and totally have fun in our own pace, collecting characters, reading their stories, watch all the beautiful costumes and hear sweet voices...
It's not mandatory to pay, you can enjoy it as a free player. Level progression is quite quick if you play daily, a few minutes by day is enough, no hours of farm needed.
I love it, it's been years I'm in and new updates are still on regularly!

yippee!!!

love these little guys the little meow meows

Love it but the English translation..

Some key words and sentences are missing. It’s already a ‘lack-of-story-game’ so please stop making it worse.

Not sure

Not sure what to rate as the game keeps giving me error. Unless it’s under maintenance but shouldn’t have an error for that.

A Critical Review

Touken Ranbu is one of those games meant to be a casual husbando collector and that's it. Do not play this if you are looking for gameplay or story. It's an auto-battler with a basic progression system: Craft sword boys, send them out to do things, level up, repeat. That's it, and yes it's grindy. It's also heavily P2W especially in events so don't be suprised if you can't get the best rewards without touching your wallet. There is also no modern data saving, the biggest red flag being you have to save data on some 18+ site (Johren) that owns the game; download and create account at your own risk.
I would only recommend this to people looking for a game filled with unique illustrations of anime men alongside gameplay perfect for just tapping away while you do something else.

Amazing game!

I have always loved Japanese culture and this game is amazing! Lots of things to do in the game

This game isn’t good

Game play is lacking and lack of story.
The combat is just very basic and boring. I really expected some more from them I was so disappointed.

amazing game through and through

i played touken ranbu when it was still only playable on JP servers, so it’s such a joy to see an ENG game playable! it’s unfortunate i have to start from scratch, but thankfully i didn’t have any swords that i HAD to keep. :))

Best Game Ever

I’ve waited for sooooo long for me to be able to play. I even thought it’d never happen until it came out on English in pocket version. I’ve been playing for a bit now and it’s seriously the best!!!
