TrailBear is a wildlife sighting map for hikers, campers, trail runners, and the communities that live in bear country across Canada and the United States. Nearly 400,000 sightings from iNaturalist, Parks Canada, and the community give you the information you need to hike with confidence instead of anxiety. SIGHTING MAP See wildlife sightings on an interactive map covering all 50 states and 13 provinces and territories. Filter by species, time range, and location. Tap any sighting for photos, species details, and how recently it was reported. Seven species tracked: black bear, grizzly, polar bear, cougar, coyote, hornet, and tick. TRAIL ACTIVITY LEVELS Tap any trail to see how much wildlife has been reported nearby, weighted by species and how recent each sighting is. Grizzly and cougar reports count for more than black bears alone. It describes what people have reported, not how safe a trail is. TRIP PLANNER Search any trail, park, or town. Get a trip briefing with recent sighting data, seasonal wildlife context (denning, berry season, hyperphagia), recommended safety reading, and a printable gear checklist. A free account is required to report, so every sighting has a real person behind it. HEATMAP VIEW Toggle the heatmap to see wildlife activity hotspots and identify high-density areas at a glance. BUILT TO PROTECT WILDLIFE Grizzly and cougar locations are offset before they are displayed, by 500m in Canada and up to 1km in the United States. True coordinates never leave our database. Black bear, coyote, hornet, and tick locations are shown exactly, and so are polar bears, because people in Arctic communities need to know when a bear has entered town. TrailBear exists to keep people safe around wildlife, not to help anyone find it. OFFLINE MAPS Download map areas before you lose cell service and navigate in the backcountry. WHAT IT WILL NOT DO Sightings are crowdsourced and unverified. An empty map does not mean an empty forest, and most wildlife is never reported. TrailBear is not a substitute for bear spray, backcountry preparation, or your own judgement. Browsing the map and every safety guide are free, with no account needed.
