About
Pick up the instrument and get the first string in tune in under a minute.
traste is a chromatic tuner and a metronome in a single app. It opens straight into the tuner; there is no sign-up, no welcome tour and no "accept the terms" in the way.
THE TUNER
Two-stage YIN pitch detection with a full-rate refinement pass: the reading lands within a fraction of a cent. The fret ruler shows it from across the room, no squinting; the string slides toward the fret and everything blooms green when it lands, with a short haptic so you can tune without watching the screen.
It is genuinely chromatic. Play any note on any instrument, with no string picker to fight: acoustic and electric guitar, bass, ukulele, mandolin, banjo, violin, cello, wind instruments or voice.
THE METRONOME
Clicks are scheduled ahead of time on the audio clock rather than on an ordinary timer. In practice: the tempo is sample-accurate, and it is still sample-accurate ten minutes into a take.
Drag the number to sweep the tempo or tap it out with your finger. Tap a classical marking and the BPM jumps straight to the right place: Largo, Adagio, Andante, Moderato, Allegro, Presto. 20 to 260 BPM, with 2, 3, 4 or 6 beats per bar and an accented downbeat.
THE NOTE HISTORY
A phrase goes by and it is gone. traste keeps the last few notes above the big letter, fading as they age: play a line, look up, and see what came out. It reads a new note every 46 ms, so it follows a sixteenth-note line; it hears the same note picked again from the attack; hammer-ons, pull-offs and slides all count; and it knows a played line from a strummed chord, which never becomes a list of loose notes.
BUILT FOR DAILY USE
• Reference pitch adjustable from 432 to 446 Hz, for early music and orchestras
• Six themes named after instrument materials, each in light and dark; the app can also follow the system
• Note letters (C, D, E), the notation you already read on the chart
• Phone and tablet: on iPhone and iPad the note, the ruler and the numbers all grow together, readable from a music stand
• Portuguese, English, Spanish and German, switchable inside the app
• Recovers on its own after a phone call or an app switch
PRIVACY, ACTUALLY
traste makes no network requests at all. There is no server, no account, no ads and no tracker. The microphone is the only permission, requested on the tuner screen and used only there; audio is analysed on the device and discarded immediately, with nothing recorded.
Free, with no in-app purchases and no hidden paid tier.
