Hi! I’m Sophie. I’m verbal and I have PDA autism, ADHD, and ASD. This app is great! I struggle to communicate my emotions/feelings sometimes and this really helps. 💕
I have already submitted to “Feedback & Support” in this app’s Settings Menu to add the option to remove all LGBTQIA+ things for parental controls, homophobic people, and religious people or just people who feel uncomfortable about it. I’m one of those people who are Religious (I am a Protestant Christian) and I also am just 11 and I feel overwhelmed and/or uncomfortable on this LGBTQIA+ things. Please I’m begging you, add the option to remove. Thank you!

Good for animals
I got this app for my smart guinea pig and he loves it everything he says on this app allows us to understand him better he even knows how to use the app and when he says something it is accurate thank you for this app it seems good for autism to.
They removed the voice i used but otherwise we good (edit)

Amazing AAC - Though few suggestions
Hi! Soo I’ve been using symbols aac for about a year or so now and I absolutely adore the symbols, how easy they are to use and understand. One thing I wish is that there was folders inside the boards that you can press to access more options. Like for example, about me. I can make a board about me BUT not all of it fits. I find it hard to use my book, as there are WAY too many sub categories to scroll and press. I need a lot of subcategories as I rely on aac to communicate all the time meaning lots of different scenarios. Like for example inside a classroom setting, At work, in a doctor’s appointment and etc. The board sizes are quite limited in terms of functionality. You can fit most core vocab if you want however the max size is 8x5.. it doesn’t fit all the things I need. I’m basically an adult now and I need that flexibility. I’ve had to switch to weave chat for a while due to the sizing difference but it lacks all the icons I need. If there’s a way to maybe add more board sizes or add folders on the board, that would be amazing. If not then I mean it doesn’t matter too much, I just have to find a solution.

Sound has stopped working after last update 🥹
This app is incredible! We have loved using it, but unfortunately after the last update the voice has stopped working when clicking on boards and communication book. When attempting to go to voice settings the app closes now. Pleas help!

Such a neat app, so user friendly for my 7 year old still learning to speak read and spell. Love it
Great but the maths question feature is not needed
I work in speech and language therapy and this app is incredible. It has so much to offer for free, and already comes with pre-made books and boards so for people completely new to AAC they don’t have to start from scratch. However, I am not a fan of the maths question feature that pops up when you try to navigate into a different area of the app. For example when I was trying to change something in the settings, I wasn’t able to open the page I wanted until I had correctly answered the pop up maths question. I don’t feel like this is a very accessible feature for some of the users of this app to have, and I have people I work with who wouldn’t be able to access answering some of the questions that pop up (I’m terrible at maths myself so I was caught off guard trying to answer them!). I can’t figure out if this feature can be turned off, but I feel it should be optional, as some users with higher needs may find this frustrating when they are using this app for communication purposes.

Amazing!!
I have used Twinkl for years both for professional and personal use and love it but I only recently discovered Symbols. Now I am besotted! As a parent of a SEND child the app is so useful to have on my phone it is quick easy high quality yet simple to use. The option of printing out our own boards straight from the phone is massively time saving. The additional option of logging on via the Twinkl website is invaluable. Already I have used to create new boards for both my home and my classroom!

Amazing resource for AAC
This is an amazing find- I work with a non verbal 6yo in mainstream school and the delay for funded anything has been the bane of my existence. This has changed everything for my student and I. Sadly it no longer works on our school iPad as it’s an old one, so I have to use it on my phone
Suggestions
This is such a user friendly app to create boards for use within an SpEd classroom. There are a couple of features that would be great to have implemented.
1. The option to share custom symbol folders. We have found that creating your own symbol using Twinkl or phone photos does not appear on a shared board when you send the code to another user. The visual square is blank.
2. A login option for the app that syncs your boards between the website version and the app.

Unfortunately being able to share boards doesn't help me as I am using custom symbols :(
This app is wonderful. It is the only one I have found (and I have tried many) which does everything I want it to do (except one thing - I'll get to that). I've been using it to upload my own symbols and photos, and create now and next boards and schedules. I love that it reads out the words when you tap them. Lovely user interface, the app looks great and runs really smoothly, it has never crashed on me. There are loads of built in symbols too. My one gripe? Everything is stored locally. Nothing is linked to any kind of account with Twinkle or anywhere else. That's a significant problem (and why I have only given 4 stars) because it means that anything I do on one device I have to do all over again if using a different device. A phone upgrade means I now have to start all over again from scratch :( I'd love to hear if this is a feature being worked on, because I feel I need to look at alternative apps to find one that links to an account as I don't want to have to rebuild everything whenever I change device.
