Why are there ads now?

I absolutely love this game. The scavenger hunt has become a night time routine after reading her book. But, now there’s ads that interrupt the relaxation of the game for us both. I pay for the hunts. I’d there are going to be ads, then there’s should be an option to pay to play without ads. I’d gladly pay.
