About
TypeCam turns your iPhone into a low-latency, wired camera for OBS Studio on macOS.
Plug your iPhone into your Mac with a USB cable, open TypeCam, and add the TypeCam (iPhone) source in OBS. The phone hardware-encodes video and audio and sends them down the cable. No Wi-Fi, no network setup, no pairing beyond Trust This Computer.
TypeCam is a streaming camera, not a camera app: no photo or video modes, no gallery and no local recording. It has one job, which is to send the best possible live feed to OBS.
FEATURES
• Wired – streams over the USB connection your Mac already uses for your iPhone. Nothing touches your network.
• Low latency – real-time H.264 or HEVC with no B-frames, built to keep glass-to-OBS delay low.
• Up to 4K60 – choose 720p, 1080p or 4K at 24–60 fps, with automatic or manual bitrate.
• Pro camera controls – every physical lens, manual focus, ISO, shutter speed, exposure compensation, AE/AF lock and white balance lock, on a bottom control deck with ruler dials.
• Audio – microphone audio in sync with video, as PCM (lowest latency) or AAC, with input gain, presets, a low-cut filter and a live level meter. Choose the built-in mic or a connected external input.
• Assist overlays – grid, level, histogram, zebra stripes and focus peaking. Overlays appear on the phone preview only and are never added to the stream.
• Multi-camera – use two iPhones as two independent OBS sources.
• Tap to focus, long-press to lock exposure and focus, pinch to zoom.
• Dim the screen while streaming to save power.
REQUIREMENTS
• iPhone with iOS 18 or later
• Mac with macOS 13 or later and OBS Studio 31 or later
• The free TypeCam OBS plugin installed on your Mac (see the TypeCam website)
• A USB-C or Lightning cable
TypeCam does not collect any data and does not need an account.
