Response from developer

Hello jeshurunlin, We are sorry to hear you are unable to use the app. It is fully compatible with iOS 16 and everything works as expected in our testing. If you contact us directly via our website to explain exactly what function does not appear to be working for you (the notepad itself? or they keyboard extension?), we will do our best to help.

Response from developer

Thanks for reporting problems when using TypeIt4Me in Japanese. We will do our best to try and fix this and would like to apologise for the inconvenience caused. UPDATE on June 21: we think we fixed this now, here's a link to the beta version should you care to test it and confirm to us if it is indeed fixed: https://testflight.apple.com/join/x7qXPVBS

Workable but highly flawed

Once snippets have been created on another device, and if the app actually communicates with iCloud properly, the app is usable. But creating snippets on iPhone is completely impossible, which makes any attempt to use the app in a quick and reactive way a lost cause. The moment you try to create or edit a snippet it’s like the app interface expands to be 25% larger than the iPhone screen area, meaning you can no longer see, select, add, or edit text. I’d say that the only platform it really works well on is macOS, but adding snippets there is an exercise in metronome-regular crashes and restarts. One has to wonder if the app developers are testing this app at all, or just tossing it out to us with barely a look back.

Response from developer

Hello Gwynn, we're really sorry that you've had such an uneven experience creating and syncing snippets. We do test our apps as far as we can before release, using a combination of simulators and test hardware. However, as there are only two of us and we can't test for every possible setup, sometimes glitches can slip through. We act on these as soon as they are reported to us. Due to the review process, when new devices are released with very little notice it can take us a little while to get updates in to the store to accommodate unexpected changes such as different screen sizes or other feature tweaks. The good news is we are currently hard at work on a major overhaul of our flagship Mac app that ought to finally address the stability issues that can affect the legacy version Apple currently sells on the Mac App Store. In our testing so far it works well in tandem with the TypeIt4Me Touch notepad app. If you'd like to get early access to test the beta and help us identify interoperability issues, please do get in touch with us directly via our website. We'd love the opportunity to work with you to smooth things out, improve your experience and make our apps better for everyone.

Still Not Syncing

A year after notifying the development team that snippets weren't syncing across devices, and still nothing fixed. In fact, I now can't edit snippets on iOS. I close the app after editing, then reopen, and my edit has reverted back to previous state. I can only edit on the Mac now.

Response from developer

Hello. We released an update a few months ago with revisions to the syncing code that we had hoped might resolve things for you. We are truly sorry to learn it didn't fix the issue affecting your device. We tried unsuccessfully to reproduce the same behaviour in our testing here; the fact that it doesn't happen in a repeatable way we can observe makes it difficult to identify and address the cause of the problem. We had to make changes based on our best guess of what might be going wrong. If it were happening consistently to others, too, that might give us more clues to go on and open up further avenues of investigation. Unfortunately, it appears to be unique to your setup (or if others have experienced the same thing, they just haven't reported it). If you like, we could arrange for a screen sharing session to troubleshoot with you in real time. Alternatively, we could send you a TestFlight invitation so you can have early access to TypeIt4Me 7.0 (currently in beta) on your Mac to see if that is also affected by your sync issue. Please get in touch again if you'd like us to have another crack at solving this problem for you.

FAQ

What does TypeIt4Me Touch do?

TypeIt4Me Touch is a productivity app that functions as a notepad with a powerful text expansion feature. You can create custom shorthand abbreviations that automatically expand into longer, pre-defined texts as you type, significantly speeding up note composition and messaging.

How does the text expansion feature work?

You define your own abbreviations within the app. When you type one of these abbreviations in any app that supports the keyboard extension, it will be instantly replaced with the full text you've associated with it. This is ideal for frequently used phrases, addresses, or email signatures.

Can I sync my abbreviations from my Mac?

Yes, if you use TypeIt4Me 6 or TypeIt4Me 5.4.x on your Mac and keep your abbreviations in iCloud, they will automatically sync to TypeIt4Me Touch on your iPhone or iPad. You can also add new snippets on iOS and have them sync back to your Mac.

What if I use an older version of TypeIt4Me on Mac?

For older versions of TypeIt4Me (5.5.3 or earlier) downloaded directly from Ettore Software, automatic iCloud syncing is not supported. However, you can still import your Mac abbreviations by emailing your snippet set files to yourself and opening the attachments within TypeIt4Me Touch on your iOS device.

Is this app free?

Based on the provided information, this application is a paid app. It does not mention any in-app purchases or a freemium model, indicating a one-time purchase for full functionality.
