I concur with the frustration level

I was looking forward to a simple self-guided driving tour in NY. Sadly it took multiple starts and stops to complete our tour. The app skipped stops, stopped mid-location description, misinterpreted driving moves and basically took twice as long as advertised due to poor performance. We enjoy the content but not the experience.

Nope. Don’t do it for Savannah

Incredibly repetitive. Had to restart a dozen times to get it to work correctly also. Not new to these types of apps and this one is not my jam. They repeat facts on every stop and tell you to drive when she has a full min of info to share. Cut out the repeating narrative and it would work better. I requested a refund but looks like a no. Waste of money.

Didn’t work as advertised

Great idea in theory but NOT in execution.
Could not see turn by turn directions on car screen, only phone. Kept taking us in circles instead of going to next stop and kept repeating same description.

Good tours. Horrible app experience

As others have mentioned, the tours are generally ok but using the app is pretty frustrating.

Skip it

Tried to use this app for a walking tour. The UX is awful. Navigation is miserable. You can’t move the map to try to get to the starting place. And because the audio isn’t read by an actual human who knows the area or dialect, the pronunciation is laughable. It makes it genuinely difficult to even understand. I ended up liking VoiceMap MUCH better and bought several tours there that were awesome.

Frustrating App

Agree w other reviewers that note app is frustrating - while the narrative is good, the map function is dizzying (constantly spins!) and ability to pick up where you left off after a stop does not function well.

Unfortunate choice of an app

Downloaded Washington DC DuPont circle, intended to walk to start point, app design allows for drive directions only. Dissatisfaction. Connected to gps with difficulty, ended up with starting on location No3, 1 and 2 did not worked for us. Biggest disappointment was the content of narration. Very little history, that DC has in abundance, pointing to embassy flags and location that are very visible without an app. Stoppped using after 30 minutes. Maybe other tours are better, I wouldn’t know.

Response from developer

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We’re sorry to hear that your experience with the DuPont Circle tour didn’t meet your expectations. To clarify, when the app detects that you're far from the starting point, it provides directions to help you get there—these are shown as driving directions by default but can absolutely be followed on foot. Once you arrive near the starting point, the app automatically switches to walking mode and begins the guided experience. We are local to Washington, DC, and take our tours very seriously. Our production team is currently reviewing this tour to ensure it meets the high standards we aim for in both navigation and narration. We also sincerely apologize for the GPS connectivity issues and the fact that your tour began at Stop 3 instead of Stop 1. This can occasionally happen in dense urban environments, and we’re constantly working on improvements to minimize that kind of disruption. Finally, we’d love the chance to make it up to you. Please reach out through our Contact Us page, and we’ll be happy to offer you a free tour of your choice. Thank you again for your feedback—it truly helps us improve. —The UCPlaces Team

Best part of my trip

I took the Bucharest walking tour and was guided through many fascinating spots learning about its history along the way. I find it to be a great way to discover new places.

Frustrating and mostly unhelpful

We tried to use the app to take a “peaceful” driving tour through Sedona. The app failed to integrate to our car’s information center, but I won’t blame that on the app, since I’m not 100% sure. The directions were hard to follow. When we tried to restart the tour on a site other than the first one, she got wrapped around the axle and kept repeating the introduction multiple times. We ended up closing the app and giving up. Wish we could get our money back. The narrator’s voice was nice.

Response from developer

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We're truly sorry to hear about your experience while using our app in Sedona, and can completely understand your frustration. It sounds like there were a few technical issues that impacted your enjoyment of the tour, and we wish it had worked more smoothly for you. Regarding the difficulty with directions and restarting the tour, we’re always striving to improve the user experience, and your input helps us identify areas where we can make adjustments. We’ll look into how the app handles resuming from a different site, and the repeating introduction you encountered is something we’ll work on fixing. I also want to apologize for any inconvenience caused by the lack of integration with your car’s information center. We're continuously working to ensure our app is compatible with as many systems as possible. If you’re open to it, we’d love to make it up to you. Please feel free to reach out to us directly at support@ucplaces.com, and we’d be happy to offer you a refund or help you find another tour experience that better meets your expectations. We appreciate your kind words about the narrator’s voice and hope we can provide you with a more seamless experience in the future!

Amazing digital guide!

Thanks for offering such a great tool!

Amazing self guided tour app!!

Amazing self guided tour app!!
This allowed us to see so many important places but at our own pace. This is really a unique app to discover your home town, see new places in a whole new perspective. So often a tour just goes too fast and this way really allowed us to make it our own! Bravo !!

Off-the-beaten-path tours

I’ve seen all the touristy places in DC. But until this app I didn’t even know of Dumbarton Oaks. It was super cool and made me feel like I got to know the real DC. Can’t wait for my extended family to come visit. I’m definitely going to use this app to show them around.

Awesome app

Extremely helpful!! i would highly recommend this app to anyone in or visiting the D.C. area.

Wonderful experience

This really opened my eyes to some wonders of DC. The tours were well written and made for a lovely afternoon. Can’t wait to go out and tour again

Very cool idea!

I am so excited for this app! I like learning things when I visit a new city and this app will let me go at my own pace.

Best way to explore

It’s like having a local at your finger tips who can tell you all the cool places to check out, outside of the normal tourist attractions. My favorite part is I can fit the tour into my schedule and take it at whatever time I want. I don’t have to reserve a time or plan my day around it, instead the tour is planned around my day. Love it!!

Great concept!

I love this concept! How many times have I been in a new town or city and wished I knew a little bit more about what the locals recommend?! This can be great for everything from history to dining. Looking forward to using this more as available tours grow!

Great Idea, Easy Interface!

Great idea for a new app that provides guided tours AND let’s users create their own public or private tours. Easy to use interface and that Shelly tour guide is the bomb!
