Best App for Self Guided Tours

I used this app in Lyon, for a tour round Vieux Lyon, the oldest parts, and it was excellent.

It was an excellent tour, the route would be challenging for the less able, with some steep staircases and slopes, but it’s pretty manageable for most people.

Very immersive, taking you to spots you would otherwise not think of, and gives you an excellent insight into the oldest parts of Lyon. I recommend it, it’s worth the fee.

Very nice

Very nice! My first experience on the app, I listened to Freiburg and enjoyed it

Travelling guide

The ‘go to’ App my wife and use the most when travelling (and as we are retired we can travel a lot)?. Sadly, not available everywhere yet. Each tour usually lasts 1.5 - 3 hours. Really excellent value for money. One of its better features is the automatic GPS location detection as well as a real local person talking to you. You can do bits on several days if you aren’t fit (as they are walking tours).

Architectural Tour of New Orleans Garden District

It was as good as if he were there in person! Obviously, the only thing I couldn’t do was ask questions. But, it gave just the right amount of information, about historical and pop culture. Also liked that he gave personal opinions regarding some of the architecture.

Unknown Bruges

Excellent!!! I enjoyed both the Intro to Bruges and the Unknown Bruges. It was informative and historical. I can’t say enough except I hope there is a voice map tour in Brussels!

FAQ

What is VoiceMap?

VoiceMap provides self-guided audio tours for cities and museums worldwide. These tours use GPS to trigger stories and information about your surroundings as you explore, allowing you to discover places at your own pace.

How do the audio tours work?

Once you start a tour, the app uses your device's GPS to play audio content automatically as you reach specific points of interest. You can pause and resume tours at any time, and download them for offline use, including maps.

Are the tours free?

The app offers a wide selection of both free and paid tours. You can browse over 2,000 tours across 80 countries, with many free options available. Paid tours offer more extensive content and unique storytelling.

Can I use VoiceMap without an internet connection?

Yes, after downloading a tour, VoiceMap works completely offline. This includes the audio content and an offline map, making it ideal for travel without worrying about roaming fees or connectivity issues.

Who creates the tours?

Tours are produced by local storytellers, including journalists, filmmakers, novelists, podcasters, and professional tour guides. This ensures insightful and authentic narratives about the places you visit.
