Wonderful concept!

What a fantastic model! We often book tours when we travel but they are often expensive and we have to fit in the guide’s schedule. This is such a lovely concept.

Super buggy and steals your money

The app is a great idea and the content is generally great. However the app itself is very buggy. Changing the speed of the narration creates overlapping audio, and it’s nearly impossible to allow a child to purchase a tour through a request to a parent because the download flow is interrupted. My kids ended up charging me multiple times for the same download and Apple refused to refund at least one of those multiple downloads. These are really awful bugs and you ended up converting someone who was enthusiastic to someone pretty upset by the overall experience. Whether this is ultimately Apple’s fault or VoiceMap’s fault I don’t know, but the experience was decidedly negative.

Response from developer

Thanks for the feedback. We'd love to try and address the two issues you've pointed out, but more info would be a great help. Changing narration speed shouldn't lead to overlapping audio, but every tour is different and if you were to drive a walking tour – for example – there are instances where this could happen. Could you please send an email to support@voicemap.me with the name of the tour and whether you were speeding up or slowing down the audio? As for the request to a parent issue, this isn't something we've explicitly tested. But Apple in-app purchase is an imperfect system with all sorts of frustrations for developers. If you're buying for a group, I recommend doing so at voicemap.me, where there is a flow especially for this. If you've been overcharged, we'll do what we can to help. Again, the best thing would be to email support@voicemap.me. Thanks!

Excellent app!

Have used the app for two audio tours in Poland. Excellent tech, depth of content and narration.

Bait and switch. Not free but advertised free

Absolutely terrible, zero stars. I consumed my data roaming to download their app after seeing their claim free.

Great app for vacations!

I’ve been using this on vacations for about 4 years now and really enjoying it. Whether it’s the Coliseum in Rome, the loop in Chicago or Latin quarter in Barcelona, I always learn something new and interesting about the cities or areas we’re visiting. It’s a neat and inexpensive way to explore new places.

All tours need payment!

Advertised as lots of free tours. But all of what I saw are paid.

Descriptive

An excellent way to be exposed to a new area.

Visit SLO

First visit to San Luis Obispo and a this tour was a great introduction to such a culturally rich community. Looking forward to the next one

Coimbra tour

What a great way to tour through Coimbra. The cost is right, the navigation and timing perfect, and the guide clearly articulates the important historical information along with tips on access to venues. Highly recommended if you want to avoid large groups or expensive small group tours.

We’ve done 3 so far!

We’ve used the app in Austria and Hungary! It’s great! Easy to use and great tours!

VoiceMap Tours

The absolute best in its category!

Extremely disappointed

Downloaded San Gimignano Guide. Started in front of the church as required, and was never able to make it work from there. Directions sent me down wrong streets, I was never able to pick it up correctly, and a very annoying voice kept telling me “some people get lost in life.” I’m off to Siena tomorrow and will be downloading a different guide.

Peaceful and Informative

My favorite sound in the natural world is flowing water in a stream. This audio tour was a perfect accompaniment to this peaceful walk along the falls and the stream. I highly recommend the tour.

Want to save some big bucks?

What an amazing idea for an app! Download this app for your own personal tour guide to hundreds of cities and towns around the world!
We’ve used this app multiple times in Europe and have not been disappointed!
Tired of the cattle car excursions offered by cruise ships? You know, the ones where someone or two from your group of 30+ gets lost, or stuck in the bathroom line…
Not with is app! Just you, and your bestie sharing you earbuds and having a private, at your own pace, tour! Stopping for coffee or gelato when you want!
Kudos to whoever thought this up! Fantastic!

Awesome

Great App - first used at the Culloden Battle Field in Scotland. The story was well paced and informative and gave the visit depth and meaning! Loved it will use again.

A Splendid Tour Of St. Simons Island

Anyone visiting St. Simons would thoroughly enjoy this beautifully narrated tour. You will get an incredible overview of the history of this Island while enjoying the scenic views along the way. This is the perfect introduction to St. Simons Island and will help you decide which other attractions you want to explore while visiting.

Immersive

This is a great way to tour a new city, guided by a local with clear instructions and great stories!

Multiple cities - great tours

We came across VoiceMap by accident when we missed a local walking tour in Salamanca. Since then we’ve used it in every major city we’ve travelled to on our campervan tour it’s been epic. Can’t recommend the highly enough and suggested it to many of our friends. The ability to take the tours at our own pace sharing a pair of earbuds has been great.

Annapolis Walking Tour: Where History Meets the Water

This was the third VoiceMap tour I’ve done and while the other two were excellent, this was my favorite. The author did a fabulous job of bringing the city to life through engaging stories and interesting comments. It is obvious she is passionate about the city. The tour takes you to various historical sites in a logical manner, starting and ending in the main downtown area. Pay attention to the directions while walking. They are detailed and will keep you on the right track and use the map only as a backup. The author brings history to life and explains the significance of Annapolis during the revolutionary war period as well as the contributions of enslaved people. Standing on the spot where Kunte Kinte was sold into slavery was chilling. I highly recommend this tour which takes only about an hour but is filled with so much information. After the tour we went back to explore some of the places mentioned in more detail. Going into the State House to see the room where George Washington submitted his resignation was a highlight. Actually reading his original letter with the markings and edits he made, forced me to reflect on this historical moment in our history. This tour will not disappoint. You can go at your own pace and not worry about keeping up with some tour guide or dealing with other patrons monopolizing the tour. Kudos to the author.

Amazing

I’ve done multiple voice tours so far and loved all! So much so that I helped with a funding request.
Strasbourg was particularly good!
