Not the best
The idea behind it is cute, but it’s too basic. I’m not at all impressed with the Goodreads import function. It completely screwed up my finished book count, which is noticeably inaccurate and missing numerous books, not to mention books in my DNF and my want to read listings. Also, to actually plant real trees, you have to pay for a subscription. But the app is too basic to make it worth paying for. Even the free version of Fable has more and better features than this one. Perhaps with more updates, it will become something worth spending money on, but right now it isn’t. There are better tracking apps than this out there.

Reading is FUNdamental!
Reading is fundamental and a lifelong activity for me, but I’ve never used an app to track my goals and progress. I enjoy connecting with family and friends on Understory and benefit from the book reviews posted. My virtual forest is growing, and since I upgraded to premium, real trees are being planted as a result of my progress.

Where are the widgets ?
I installed your application because I find it very pretty with a super cool interface and I saw on threads that you said you had widgets to put on the home screen (like shelves with the readings in progress on them) nice except that when I try to add some, my iPhone does not find a widget linked to your application... Will they arrive in a future version?

I’ve been using Understory for a hot minute now and I have really enjoyed it! The streak mechanism and tree watering feature definitely makes me more inclined to log my reading every day on Understory rather than other tracking apps.
The little monthly missions are also a major plus that make me feel more motivated to not only continue my reading habit, but to branch out to other genres as well! I’ve had so much fun connecting with my friends on this app and keeping up with what they’re reading, which was not an experience I was necessarily having with the Amazon counterpart because of how much other irrelevant content they push onto your social feed, so being able to actually see my friends’ updates on Understory has been a welcome change.

Great for active and occasional readers
This is a wonderful reading tracker that has helped push me to read more. Whether it is reading a few pages each day to keep my streak alive or finding new books recommended by others that I would not have previously considered, this app has been the reason I have read more this year than I would have. It is very easy to use and I recommend it whether you read a book a month or a book a week.

Understory has completely changed the way I track my reading. I love the unique tree-growing aspect of the app—watching my reading grow into a little forest makes tracking each book feel much more rewarding. It gives me a visual way to see my reading progress and makes it really satisfying to look back at everything I’ve read.

Cleanest Reading Tracker
Understory is my favorite reading tracker that I have used. I joined a reading group with a few friends, and it’s fun to see their reading streaks and book reviews right in the app. It also has audiobook tracking functionality. The interface is easy to use and has a clean design with lots of great features like wishlists and reading lists. I would recommend it for individuals or groups like book clubs or classrooms.

My new favorite way to track my reading!
This app is so good at motivating me to read every day. It sends reminders and rewards daily reading with the cutest concept for watering your garden! The design is beautiful and makes it so much fun to track my reading compared to other apps that feel more like a chore. I also love seeing what my friends are reading and interacting with their reviews. It has helped me find so many new books that I probably never would have found on my own! If you’re trying to form a healthy reading habit this is the best app to help you with that :)

Excellent Book Tracker
This is a great app for keeping track of reading. I value that the design is clean/doesn’t feel cluttered, and that it does exactly what it says (helps you track books) and doesn’t bombard with any other ads or gimmicks. Just nature themes and books.

Maybe the best reading tracker
This might be the nicest looking reading tracker out of them all. It's got all the features of any other book tracker so you're not giving anything up, and it just plain looks better. Love the shareable cards, love the tree planting. Imported my books quick and easy. Reached out to the developers to ask a question and they got back to me so fast! So far, amazing experience, will probably switch long term.

Keeps me reading!!
I love the streak feature. It will motivate me to read (at least a few pages) on days when I otherwise wouldn’t have. The interface also just feels fresher and easier to navigate than a typical book tracking app. And I get to grow little trees!!! Love it 💚🌳🌴🌲🌱

I’ve tried every single app to log reading. This one is not only far prettier and more functional, but the community it offers is truly special. My new favorite reading tracking app!
This app has really helped me read more but in a way that doesn’t feel like a chore! I’ve tried quite a few reading trackers to try to get away from Goodreads and none of them clicked for me until Understory! I especially love how you can grow real world trees as a premium user so it’s awesome that my reading can support an indie team and have a positive environmental impact! The UI is so cute, especially with the plant theme, and I love growing my trees as I read. I’m competitive so I also love the leaderboards but I know I’m competing in the middle, not at the top, and it’s been a fun additional feature and doesn’t take away from reading for fun! Would highly recommend whether your reading goal is 1 or 100!
