The worst cab company I have ever used

I switched to another cab company the other day and it was shocking how different it was from my experiences with Unicity. I thought these problems were universal to all cabs, but it turns out it's just this greedy, ableist company!

During my rides with Unicity via EIA medical transportation over the past few years, countless drivers have harassed me, shouted at me, physically threatened me, assaulted me and damaged my mobility equipment. The dispatchers are rude and bigoted and do not take concerns or reports of driver misconduct seriously - once you finally reach them after 20-40 minutes of hold music and looping AI-generated marketing nonsense. You can leave messages with the manager about her employees assaulting you and putting your life at risk, but she'll never call you back.

The last dispatcher I spoke to was the last time I will ever call Unicity. They were rude and dismissive when I expressed surprise that the ride that had been meant to come 20 minutes previously would still be "at least an hour", said they're not a medical transport company (despite being contracted by the government to provide medical transport), then hung up on me. There is NO REASON it should take over an hour every time to find a wheelchair van, especially for trips booked in advance.

Every single wheelchair taxi driver except one (shoutout Hussen) utterly refused to use the tie-downs on my wheelchair; many also attempted to lie to me and say the chair was tied down when it wasn't. I had to get EIA to put a special note on my file specifying to use the tie-downs, and even after that many tried not to and complained that it wasn't necessary. This is illegal, not to mention extremely unsafe. They would inevitably end up yelling in my face and panicking when I asked them to do this simple and necessary task, which literally takes 20 seconds. They all seemed to lack any understanding of what happens when a large, unrestrained object in an open vehicle keeps moving when the van comes to a sudden stop.

Drivers would also CONSTANTLY comment on my body and health, making rude comments and offering unsolicited and dangerously wrong medical advice. Some would even accuse me of faking my disability and say that because I can transfer independently, I shouldn't be allowed to use wheelchair cabs. They would often grab and move me in my chair without asking, and would drag my chair with the brakes on to move it while I was telling them to stop and take the brakes off. More than once I had to literally shout to make them let go of my chair. They would often just stare straight ahead when I spoke and pretend I wasn't saying anything. Not even the slightest attempt at professionalism or human decency.

It's hard to have sympathy for people who have treated me so poorly, but I couldn't help but notice the working conditions for the drivers seem awful as well. They are so stressed and tired that they will snap over nothing and fail to understand basic instructions. I was told they are allowed to take double 12 hour shifts. This definitely contributes to how they treat their customers, though it's still no excuse.

Oh, and Unicity recently raised the base fare for wheelchair users from just over 3 dollars to $12.65, even though they're obligated to transport wheelchairs with no additional charge.

Do not use this cab company, especially if you're disabled. EIA folks, please be aware you can ask for a different one (I didn't know this until yesterday). You'd be better off wheeling 10 miles in the snow than taking a cab with Unicity.

Unable to use taxi voucher

I was forced to add a credit card when creating an account and it wouldn’t let me change the payment method. Once in the taxi I was told I wasn’t allowed to use my taxi voucher as I had ordered through the app. Very frustrating.

Cab #034

Driver took someone else even though I waited 15minutes, I approached the cabbie and he didnt want to take me, Cab#034, switching over to Duffys, Unicity lost a customer, blame cab #034

Registration Doesn’t work

Tried to create a new account, confirmation email wasn’t sent. Can change password, but says login incomplete because email confirmation not done. (Confirmation email didn’t go to junk) now can’t create account.

Severely broken app

Anytime I’ve opened this app, regardless of where I am in the city, there are no cabs available.
