About

One word a day from another language that English never bothered to name. Japanese has a word for the dappled light that falls through leaves: komorebi. Portuguese has one for the ache of missing someone you may never see again: saudade. Danish has hygge, Tagalog has gigil, Inuktitut has iktsuarpok. English has… a whole sentence, and a shrug. Untranslatable brings you one of these words every morning — beautifully typeset, with everything you need to fall in love with it: • MEANING — what the word really captures, and why a whole culture needed to name it. • ORIGINS — where it comes from, root by root. • PRONUNCIATION — hear it spoken by a native speaker, in its own language. • A USAGE EXAMPLE — see it living in a real sentence. THERE'S A WORD FOR THAT Describe a feeling in your own words — "the ache of missing someone far away", "cozy and warm inside while it storms" — and Untranslatable finds the word that names it. It searches by meaning, not spelling. THE LIBRARY Browse every word by theme, mood, and language. Or tap Surprise me and let one find you. ADOPT THE ONES YOU LOVE Found a word you can't live without? Adopt it into your personal Lexicon and say it out loud any time. Gentle spaced review helps you keep the ones that matter. Your Passport quietly stamps every word you've met and every language you've visited, and a reading streak keeps you coming back. MADE FOR SAVOURING • A calm, literary design with a serif made for reading — in light or dark. • Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets showing today's word. Tap to open it. • Ask Siri for today's word. • A morning reminder, at a time you choose — one a day, never more. • Your week in words: a weekly look back, plus beautiful cards for the words worth passing on. NO ACCOUNT. NO ADS. NO TRACKING. Untranslatable asks for nothing and keeps nothing. Your streak and your lexicon live only on your device. Some feelings only exist once someone gives them a name. Come collect them.
