Please Update?
I love the convenience of using the UpKid app but the speed is years behind. PLEASE invest all that profit toward a quicker app. Thank you!
HORRIBLE
I signed up, did the onboarding and everything just to not get hired for shifts! Just FYI the center hires you to work for them not the UpKid app. My suggestion is to just apply on Indeed or a company’s website if you want to work in childcare.
Flexibility
I have been working for Upkid for 7 months now and I like it because I get to choose shifts I want to apply for that fits my schedule and needs. It’s really fun going to different daycares and different locations! I’ve had nothing but great experiences at the daycares I worked at. It’s also a nice course of extra money. I met great people to work with. If I have an issue, Upkid is great at responding and fixing the issues. I only gave it 3 stars because of how far away most day cares are to where I live making it harder to accept work.

Please don’t use if this is your only income.
I’ve applied and will apply to multiple jobs as soon as they are posted, great reliability score and rating and haven’t worked since May it’s July. It’s made me even more depressed than I already am. Thanks Upkid!
A Warning to New UpKid Applicants: Understand How Scheduling Really Works. Completed Every Requi
⭐☆☆☆☆ (1 Star)
I am extremely disappointed with the way UpKid’s scheduling system works. The entire platform feels outdated compared to other staffing apps.
To work through UpKid, applicants are required to complete an interview, pass a background check, submit fingerprints, complete approximately 10 hours of training, and maintain CPR certification. After investing all that time and effort, I expected a scheduling process that was reliable and transparent.
Instead, when you request an assignment for the same day, you are not actually scheduled. You have to wait for the daycare or facility to decide whether to accept you, and that acceptance can happen just minutes before the shift begins. In my case, I was assigned to a shift only 45 minutes before the scheduled start time. It is unrealistic to expect someone to drop everything and arrive on such short notice.
To make matters worse, I was marked as a no-show because I didn’t see the assignment in time. That’s unfair. Many professionals work across multiple staffing platforms or have other obligations. A scheduling system should not assume workers are available to leave immediately whenever a facility decides to accept them.
Other staffing apps allow you to claim a shift and immediately know your schedule, giving you the ability to plan your day accordingly. UpKid should modernize its scheduling system to operate the same way. Workers deserve adequate notice and confirmed schedules—not last-minute assignments that can negatively impact their attendance record.
Until this issue is addressed, I cannot recommend this app to childcare professionals looking for dependable and predictable work opportunities.

Waiting game
Interview/onboarding- no issues. I’ve applied for jobs that are close by because w/ gas prices I’m not driving 30+ minutes one way. I’m a licensed teacher, I teach pt in the school district, would love to teach part time here. I’ve never been selected. I feel like it should be more like the districts, where jobs come up, & if you want it you choose it. Upkids system- they have a teacher waiting even up to morning of if they have been selected. It actually works great for the daycares, but not so great for the one waiting as often times it messes up the teacher waiting for a position. I still look and I still apply, but I don’t apply as often.

Convenient Substituting!
I have worked in childcare for the past 7 years and wanted to not be tied down to one specific place as I just moved to a new place. Onboarding was very simple and the interview went smoothly! I have worked for Upkid for 1 month and it is incredibly convenient. Payment is upfront. It’s easy to clock in and out. Obtaining the daycare address and directions is incredibly simple. There’s a rating system both for you and the daycares. And contacting the daycare is very simple.
One time I clocked out incorrectly and reached out to Upkid for support to which they got back to me AFTER HOURS and it was fixed the day of. :)
It is also an amazing way to get hired if that is your desire. Many organizations hire Upkid substitutes, as I have been offered 3-4 jobs through my time and met many other former Upkid substitutes -> employees.
The main issues I ever have are often with a daycare themselves, and Upkid as the conduit barely ever presents a problem.

No jobs hiring me
I am overly qualified with a psych degree, years of teaching, and I apply to multiple places who just reject me. This is a bad app!
Careless
Suspended my account over a misunderstanding and didn’t even care to talk politely about the situation. Emergencies happen but they don’t care!
Good flexibility
I love this app! The Upkid support is so nice and the centers I worked at have been nothing but pleasant. I enjoy working at different locations and choosing my own schedule. The only downsides are when you book a shift, you may not be there the whole shift and the center can send you home if you’re not needed. The other thing is it’s hard to get hired for shifts so it’s kind of a competition or waiting game unless you choose the instant hire shifts

Horrible
I selected a shift the night before overnight I got accepted to work a job and didn’t know then next morning I woke up late and removed from the app claiming it was a no call no show
Red flag
Please ignore my previous good review, I tired giving them the benefit of the doubt Horrible, do not use
I Love Upkid !
I’ve had a great experience using Upkid. The app is easy to use, shifts are straightforward to pick up, and the support team is responsive and professional. Whenever I’ve needed assistance, they’ve handled situations with care and fairness, which I really appreciate. Overall, it’s a solid platform for educators and childcare professionals. Highly recommend!

Termination Error
The app has many errors, my contract was terminated due to one of the many errors. I needed work so I managed to work through the errors. I reported numerous errors from clocking in, break time and incorrect pay. As well as the app delays when applying to jobs. Great concept However, I hope the company correct the errors before letting great people like myself go due to an error.

Terrible service
Had me re-upload my cpr and health and safety at least 3 times and never verified it so I had to redo it all again and still didn’t get and jobs and now I’m being told I have to redo everything again
THIS APP SUCKS!
This app sucks. It. Never. Works. And you have to go through the app to book subs they won’t let you do it online. It takes over ten minutes to load, when it does finally load the school list it won’t let me scroll all the way down. After about 20 minutes of waiting, if I’m lucky I can finally select a school. Except your have to wait again for it to load before you post a shift. And don’t even get me started on invoicing. I have to invoice one person and then the entire app exits out to the Home Screen and you have to start over for each invoice through the whole waiting process again. The ONLY positive is the costumer service is top notch and they fix a lot of our issues over the phone. But still, the app is trash!

Totally Discriminatory and Unfair Onboarding!
I was completing the onboarding process and scheduled my interview call. I could have sworn I checked the time I wanted it scheduled for 1:00, however the person conducting the interview called me at 12:00 when I wasn’t available. I went back in and verified that my time was for 1:00 and it definitely was! They claimed it was for 12:00. I answered their call back around 12:30 and I gave them the numerous amounts of experience I had and the experience I had with a homeschooling group as well. I was more than qualified however, they disqualified me which breaks my heart, honestly. This woman didn’t sound friendly and sounded like she didn’t even have experience conducting an interview. I truly believe this company is discriminating and if you don’t pick up their call even if it’s not your scheduled time, they will disqualify you. Oh and also if you don’t have years of experience, they won’t even consider you. Horrible company. I definitely don’t recommend.

Daycares always decline
As a shift seeker who has completed all training ,got first aid n cpr training through them, and finished any other upkid quizzes… it has been extremely difficult to get booked for a shift. It’s been months of me trying to get booked. Even with new daycares being added. I’m not sure how everyone experience is so joyful

Race plays a role
I if you’re not white then it will be harder for you to get pick for a job. They only want white candidates so if you’re not white I recommend you to find something else
Failure of an app
Went to apply and can’t even get a scheduled phone call, says they are completely booked out for the entire month in the first week of the month. Embarrassing
