What's New in VeloGPS

1.4.1

July 25, 2026

Track recording, rebuilt for accuracy This release overhauls the recording pipeline end to end. A new motion-aware filter suppresses GPS jitter as you record — no more zig-zags at stoplights or wander while you're stopped — and when you save, the entire track is re-smoothed using the full recording for the cleanest possible line. Stopped recordings no longer accumulate phantom distance, max speed ignores single-fix glitches, and average moving speed is properly time-weighted. Honest about signal loss When GPS drops out — tunnels, airplane cabins, urban canyons — VeloGPS now says so instead of guessing. Charts show a gap rather than a fabricated flat line, the Live Activity switches to a clear SIGNAL LOST state, the map draws a dashed bridge across the outage, and GPX exports split the track at real outages so other apps don't invent impossible speeds. Better in the air Flight mode adds an altitude filter that rejects physically impossible single-sample spikes, and it no longer accepts coarse ground-level fixes during a GNSS outage at cruise — your flight tracks stay at altitude where they belong. Better on rails and in traffic Multipath "teleports" — the sideways jumps you see on trains and among tall buildings — are now detected and rejected before they reach your track. Steadier on long recordings A new memory guard suspends the map view before iOS can terminate the app mid-recording, so all-day tracks survive aggressive memory pressure. Background recording is also more robust, no longer tied to UI updates. Sharper GPX exports Trackpoint timestamps now carry fractional seconds, so exported tracks show correct point-to-point speeds in other mapping tools.

FAQ

What devices does VeloGPS support?

VeloGPS is available for iPhone and iPad devices. It leverages the device's built-in sensors for its navigation features.

How accurate is VeloGPS's altitude reading?

VeloGPS uses a fused altimeter that combines the iPhone's barometer with GPS data for steady and responsive elevation readings. It also includes an outlier filter to reject physically impossible pressure spikes.

Can I use VeloGPS offline?

While the app utilizes GPS for positioning, which generally works offline, the interactive map features and live data updates may require an internet connection for optimal performance. Track recording and GPX export function without a constant connection.

How does VeloGPS handle battery consumption on long trips?

VeloGPS includes a Power Saver mode that lowers GPS update frequency, pauses the magnetometer, and auto-suspends GPS when you are stationary to extend battery life on long outings.

What kind of data can I export from VeloGPS?

You can export your recorded tracks as standard GPX files. These files include metadata such as activity type, making them compatible with most mapping tools.

Does VeloGPS have ads?

No, VeloGPS is ad-free. This allows for an uninterrupted navigation experience, especially during outdoor activities.

How often is VeloGPS updated?

The latest version, 1.4.0, was released on June 6, 2026, indicating recent development and ongoing support for the application.

What are the main benefits of using VeloGPS over a dedicated GPS unit?

VeloGPS offers the convenience of using a device you already carry, providing precise coordinates, barometric altitude, compass, waypoints, track recording, and GPX export. It aims to replicate the functionality of a dedicated unit.
