Easy to Read
As someone who prefers a paper newspaper on her table, I am pleased with the ease of reading it on my tablet.
WHAT ADS? I don't see any ads!
*** update***
Update - I got a new phone and lost my subscription- not renewing. And why are important news items for subscribers only? Closed roads, state of emergency declared by the sheriff - ACTIVE SHOOTER on the Heuneme base? The news is supposed to be a public service FIRST, I’m disappointed to say the least!
This is an update to my review since reading the other reviews on here...I don't see any ads on the new version. And even if I did, I don't mind. However, I do believe that if someone paid for a subscription based on "no ads" - then they should receive a refund. I, for one, am loving the idea of being able to read as much as I want for free, and I will tolerate the ads for that specific reason.
This version is better for me since there doesn't appear to be a forced limit on free articles.
The last version had a monthly limit of 10 **free** articles and then you had to pay for a subscription to read anything more that month. I was never going to pay for a subscription - I don't believe I should be required to pay for information when the paper makes money already on ads. But that's me. I'm willing to tolerate the ads so I can get my info for free. Old school "over the air" free TV paradigm. People under 30 won't understand that concept.
****The only thing I don't like about the new version is the real estate section part of the app. I can't get to my saved searches very easily or at all sometimes*******.

Rip off
Dont bother using this when the la times does a better job
Terrible change
I want just the original VC star app. New version is terrible. Been a customer for 40 years and will quit this paper if original is no longer available!!
Unable to “send feedback”
Unable to “send feedback” as directed at the end of a news article. The send feedback page is just a blank white screen. Nothing better than an inaccessible shadow corp writing articles with AI. There’s little “local” control or accessibility for our community.
On-line daily read
I am a newspaper man and have read one daily all my life. Having the Star on my iPad has only enhanced my reading experience. It is my go-to source for Ventura city, county and regional news and events. Keep up the great work.
Saturday opine
Bring back the Saturday opine section.
Empty paper leans LEFT
Repeats article two days in a row. Poor writers.
Way too slanted left editorial theme!!!! Not fair and balanced journalism 🤨
Too unprofessional copy!!!
No way to access account info
What good is your app if there is no way to update my subscription payment?
Mixed reaction
Not enough local news; too much of what there is sounds like barely rewritten (at best) press releases. On the other hand. I’ll subscribe as long as the paper exists. (The other papers I subscribe to - LAT, NYT, WaPo and AppleNews among them - contain even less Ventura County news, which it what I come here for).

Surprisingly Improved
Getting better!
Thanks
Really appreciate you're taking off pop-up advertising for paid subscribers.
Ventura COUNTY Star
Nice blend of local and national news
Unable to access newspaper
For the last two months I have been unable to read the newspaper in the app. I can only read it on a website. I have written in three times and have not heard a single thing. Please help or fix this.
TheOldandTheNew
I Like the old version much better. It was easy to use and started up much easier. I downloaded the app as I was instructed to do and it started up ok but when I to go to puzzles it went to. A page that was blank, and stayed that way. I find that I now have to load VCSTAR through Google/Chrome. Then I have to choose the Sports section and go to the pages I want manualy. When I click on a puzzle they work but always has a section on the left which limits the size. I used to get it almost full page which made it a lot easier to read. The comics too.
I can print out things okay but I don’t want to have to print out everything I have trouble reading on the screen.
This is an AirPad II and the screen is only 7.5 inches wide and my eyes are 78 years old and need all the help they can get.

Long Time Subscriber
Best almost daily local news resource.
Doesn’t look like local newspaper
… looks more like Google News
Liberal views
This paper like other tend to have articles against President Trump and positive views towards the left rarely citing any positive achievements made byTrump or his administration. Often many are one sided. I only read this for local news updates
Pretty good.
Had a bit of a struggle getting linked to my account. Once I got in works fine. No problem finding my way through it. The app should mention that there is also a “Print Addition” app to download if readers prefer that format.
