It works

Worth it to pay for the premium version (no ads and data export). I wish I could change the display scale, I have to export it in order to zoom in, like +/- 0.05. If I could zoom in or change the scale I could use it in real time as I am measuring subtle vibrations, from machinery in a building. Also wish I could add more info to the history or the file name, instead of relying on noting down or remembering the order of measurements.

FAQ

What does the Vibration Meter app do?

This app functions as a seismograph or seismometer, utilizing your mobile device's accelerometer to measure the strength of various vibrations. It can detect and record seismic waves from sources like earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, avalanches, and other shocks. The app also presents ground motion data on a graph and uses an instrumental intensity scale for analysis.

How does the app measure vibrations?

The application leverages the accelerometer built into your smartphone or tablet to detect vibrations. This sensor records the movement of the device, which is then analyzed to measure the strength and characteristics of the vibrations. The data is presented as a graph showing ground movement over time along three Cartesian axes.

What scales does the app use for measurement?

The app uses the Instrumental Intensity Scale, developed by the United States Geological Survey, which maps peak ground acceleration and peak ground velocity. This scale is similar to the felt Mercalli Scale and helps categorize the intensity of vibrations based on their recorded effects. It distinguishes between various levels of vibration impact, from 'Instrumental' to 'Catastrophic'.

Can I share my vibration measurements?

Yes, the app allows you to monitor and share the results of your vibration measurements with other users. This feature enables collaboration and broader data collection for seismic or vibration analysis.

Is this app compatible with all devices?

The application is designed to work on smartphones and tablets. Its functionality relies on the device's accelerometer, so compatibility will depend on the presence and performance of this hardware component in your specific mobile device.
