Favourite ticket app

There’s one thing I would change, but lots of things I like about this app.

First, the thing I would change would be to be able to manually expire one month return tickets when I’ve used the return portion early.

They sit in my current tickets even though I’ve used the return part by the end of my weekend visits. I visit the same place on different weekends and use different train operators, so not always sure which ticket have been used.

I still like to use this app regularly as I can search trains and buy tickets easily. It remembers my rail card and it gives me Virgin points.

It also offers me the amount of discount related to my total points but allows me to choose how much discount to apply in order to not use all my points at once.

It saves my tickets and stay in my tickets list til the one month return date expires.

Train travel with points

Following all the steps & still unable to buy train tickets with points. Keeps sending me back to buying & earning points which I don’t want. A complete waste of my time trying to

Frustrating

Only reason to use it is to get Virgin Points but this has to be juggled with Virgin Red app. Also it’s not available on a desktop or laptop.

Easy to book

Good system easy to book and pay

Good, but needs one small fix.

I hope the developers see this. I like the app, but I have one request for improvement. If I buy return tickets for two people and save them (4) to my wallet, and then send one pair to my partner (go and return) the e-tickets in the wallet are difficult to tell them apart. Sure, there are two outward tickets, and two return tickets, but the two outward tickets look identical to each other, as do the two return tickets. It is therefore difficult to check that we don’t both carry the same tickets once I’ve shared them. This would cause problems at the barrier.
Sharing from the app does not put them in the wallet.
I hope I’ve explained adequately!
…The developers have promised to consider this request so I’ve added a star to the rating. Just one more to go!

Very Good

The best rail ticket app I have used with a decent Live Departures function. Would be great to have an iPad version so you can use it on both types of device.

Excellent

As a frequent train user it’s great to be able to earn points from my train tickets

Straight away

Amazing app….. got me the cheapest first class tickets

Poor service

Regularly books the wrong train time.
Cancellation button directs to a 404 error.
Help pages give incorrect information on exchanges (at least insofar as the support staff claim the processes are not as described online).

The app where you can’t but tickets

Far too often, you search for a ticket, select the price you want and move to the next screen. Inevitably the price rises by a few quid (why?) but even if this is acceptable to you (feels like you are being played here), suddenly the app is “unable to provide this fare”.
Awful to be honest and even 2 stars feels generous.

Crashes a lot

It’s good but you frequently get OOPS something went wrong on various pages whilst trying to book something. Even though I have a full signal and everything else works. You have to go back to the start which will default to single and not return and if you’re not paying attention you can book just a single due to the errors. This will put anyone off who likes to use apps as the ticket inspector is walking down the carriage lol

Additional feature needed

Great app but would be great if there was a function to buy ‘weekly’ or ‘monthly’ train passes like the other providers like Trainline.

Would be great if this could be added!

Open return functionality

The Open Return option includes Day Returns- resulting in customers booking the wrong ticket

Bugs existing

Bug1: split ticket doesn’t show sometimes
Bug2: train timing next available train button doesn’t work

Incredible app

Really good alternative to Trainline.

Good value, could be smoother for compensation and refunds

App is easy to use and to select required journeys, however process to apply for compensation if delayed or refund if plans change is very clunky and you’re never quite sure it has got your details correctly eg it asks what type ticket, but you may be on a split ticket so some as Anytime and some of the journey Advanced. Only gives option to enter one UTR, but could have two on a split ticket. However, it is cost effective and doesn’t change a booking fee like its competitor. The reward points, although not a generous scheme are a welcome extra.

No updates to train status

Overall okay ticketing app. Gave 2 stars because the app does not notify when changes are made to journey in real-time. Would appreciate a push notification or email when my train is cancelled

Need more work

Despite its great reward scheme, the app itself isn’t that mature yet. I buy open return tickets everyday and yet everyday I need to select it again because it gets reset to single. To/from fields have memory but not the ticket type.

High prices

Try to encourage you with Virgin points offered, then offer much higher prices than Trainline. Return tickets for 2 adults from Manchester to Euston with railcard, £114 on Trainline, £141 on Virgin app.

Very good

Very good app, easy to get tickets, like that you earn points, easy to get a refund should you need to, user-friendly and easy to navigate, able to reserve seats even though not booking directly with the train operator, payment is fast and easy too. Live departure information is good too - shows destination and stop you’re going to more clearly.
