Great for IOS musicians mixing with headphones
This is a great solution for checking the translation from a headphone-based mix to speakers. It is the only AUv3 plugin that simulates speaker crosstalk and the ambiance of a real room.
I created a nearfield monitor preset with it, and it sounds like two speakers a meter in front of me - very impressive. From a binaural standpoint, this is top-notch and can compete with other professional headphone mixing solutions like Waves NX or Embody.
I believe the app could be marketed not only as a binaural effect but also as a headphone mixing solution. In recent years, especially due to the pandemic, mixing on headphones has become more popular. Additionally, headphones, such as planars, have improved significantly, and more software solutions have entered the market. However, there's still a gap for IOS music producers.
I think there is a significant demand for headphone mixing solutions, as many iOS musicians primarily work with headphones. I would like to see the following features in VirtualRoom AU:
- A slider to adjust the damping/amount of reverb in a room to simulate a well-tuned studio room.
- A filter to shape the reverb frequency spectrum to achieve a bright or dark-sounding room.
With these features, I believe it would be perfect for mixing.

Really interesting and does recreate āa spaceā.
Hard to feel well enough qualified to write this up, but thereās a bit of physics behind this, and I think itās a darned good shot at the subject. First, the effect does do what youād think, for front placement of the ālistenerā and the icons of stereo speakers being positioned as you wish. Second, if they could do a massively convincing above/below/behind effect, nobody would buy a room-full of speakers for surround sound. Five stars though.
This area of sound processing is one of those things in life, where āit does what you tell it, but not what you wanted it to doā sometimes. Like remote-controlling a toy car steering as it comes towards you. Itās good because it really works, for all the essentials, and because the closest I could get ever to sounds ābehind the listenerā with just stereo earbuds, is trying some kind of āphaseā effect. Itās not at all easy although in theory surely this can be done - surely the ears and brain can be fooled by a totally āfakeā above-you sound?
Iād stab at it needing the air movement behind your ears, to some subliminal effect, or humans inherently understanding in a sub-conscious way micro-reflections from the particular surfaces they have around them - I mean, I literally hypothesised right left and centre what the reason was humans āknowā the sound is behind them, or above (sorry pun not intentional).
So, I grabbed this and started exploring āspaceā and have realised, at the very least, this is a good tool to have in the box, for those lovely atmospheric intros, where a solitary piano or something carries the whole weight of holding the listenerās attention for a time. Without judicious use of reverbs and EQ and compression to bring out all the nuances, a single instrument has an uphill struggle to do much. If ever thereās a place for subtlety in sound processing, itās surely when one instrument and musician is all there is on the track (at that moment at least).
There are many reverbs, some better than others on iOS/iPadOS, and I used this on my (used) iPad Pro M1 12.9ā strung together with at least Appleās GarageBand standard compressor and Reverb on the end, with this in the middle. Or at the end, whichever. For the price, itās worth having just to explore - just donāt expect too much from the āZā (vertical positioning) component, or when placing the speaker icons behind the head icon. Iād treat that, more as a way of differentiating one side from the other, if you have say three tracks of the same trumpet and are creating a particular stereo/mono setup. I have no complaints, I like this, because I didnāt expect the impossible I think!

Its awesome, hoping for an update
Very natural and fun to use. Its the only one like it for auv3
Itās a start :)
This app is ok but it sounds very āphaseyā and harsh - the bass disappears. Certain frequencies seem to cancel out. The default gain of each speaker is also far too low.
It would be great to see the developer improve the reverb effect and effect in general, as there currently isnāt anything much like this on iOS/iPadOS. On desktop, however, options abound.
Try it out though - you might like it. :)

Handy
As far as Iām aware this is the only app of its kind.
Itās not bad and is useful for reference but is nowhere near the likes of waves N X which is desktop only and is expensive but it is a step in the right direction. I would like to see an upgrade with some presets that emulate recording studio environments

Directions?
Iām either looking everywhere but the right place, documentation is non-existent, or this is a waste of money. Hoping that Iām just missing some kind of community support or documentation to help use these apps.
Help!
Hey very interesting app but I donāt see how to get the keyboard that is shown on the first preview screen⦠Help doesnāt go into how to Play instruments in the garage band for instants and then move them around in the 3-D space⦠Iām also not sure how to record the output from this⦠Any help here or email to me would be of great assistance⦠Alabudde at Gmail.com
Updated to 5 stars in hopes of getting more documentation
I admit I havenāt had the time to thoroughly check it out

Enfin un plug-in AUv3 qui me permet de positionner un signal mono dans un espace stéréo de manière naturelle !
Excellent travail, j'espĆØre que le support du plug-in sera maintenu car il date de 2017...
