Can’t enable notifications

Downloaded the app but can’t enable notifications. When trying to turn them on from the app, it creates a pop up indicating I must give permission before enabling. Takes me to iPhone settings, where the app doesn’t display because it hasn’t requested permission for notifications. So I can’t enable. So it won’t request. So I can’t enable…

Fun, easy and educational!

I’m currently walking my third walk and enjoying it just as much as the others. The walks teach me about new regions. They are inspirational for those of us who love hiking. And they are super fun to do with friends. So find a new walk and hit the trail!

Walk the Distance

An app that lets you take long virtual walks along iconic routes. My wife and I started with the Camino de Santiago and we're making great progress! The interface is well designed, and the routes are full of stops with fun facts and photos. There’s plenty of free content, but the developer truly deserves support, and I’ll be purchasing something soon. 🙂

Love!

Love this app! It helps keep me accountable and motivated. Love the different checkpoints!

9 to 11 miles per day

I love this app! I typically walk about 9 to 11 miles per day and this app makes it so much more fun. I love the information at each checkpoint—I’ve learned A LOT—and I’m an extremely competitive person so being able to see and pass other people on the maps is really motivating. So far, I’ve completed Central Park, Arches National Park, Barcelona, Rome, National Mall, San Francisco, Paris, London, Beverly Hills, and Yellowstone. I’m currently walking Arlington National Cemetery. I’d LOVE to see a map for Ireland or Scotland added, and maybe Australia! If you’re looking for something to motivate you in your health journey, this is it!

Loved it until the new update

I really loved the old interface and found it bright and cheerful and super easy to navigate. The new is super boring looking and would agree with another reviewer that it seems cold. It is not as user friendly as the old. I have a harder time seeing where my friends are at and it seems like I have less access to things in the past. Several Steps in the wrong direction. Please bring back the old.

Was great before the latest update

I used to love, love, LOVE this app. The user interface was so easy to use and easy on the eyes, and it was fun to revisit locations of completed journeys. But ever since the latest update, the interface looks and feels so cold. Also the super long challenges used to be split up into sections, so at least you could complete them in parts, feeling a sense of accomplishment along the way. Now with the update, they’re all lumped into one long journey that seems overwhelming to finish. I also can’t revisit the locations of the completed journeys anymore, I can only see the latest stop of the current journey I’m on. Why did you fee the need to “fix” something that wasn’t broken?? I’ll give it another month’s try, but please bring back the old features that made this app enjoyable.

Response from developer

Hello! I think I fixed the problem for seeing past checkpoints. Let me know if you are still having issues! john@walkthedistanceapp.com

New update made the app unusable

Once the update occurred I have lost a massive amount of data. Interface completely changed and the app now consistently crashes as it attempts to log any distance. Please fix this.

Such great motivation!

Absolutely love the newest update! I’ve been using this app for a while, and it consistently keeps me motivated to walk every day. The checkpoints make it fun and give you something to look forward to. Highly recommend!

Excellent app!

I originally had difficulty accessing content, but the developer very quickly responded with a fix and I’m so happy I gave it a second try. There are tons of hikes around the globe ranging from just a few miles to hundreds of miles long. It’s very motivating when you see your progress along the trail and the landmarks and other facts they include are interesting and keep me engaged. I strongly recommend this app!

Thank you!

Appalatian Trail

Like these virtual walks for incentives to get out. Only complaint is lack of scenery pics, as not interested in shelter pics.

The best walking app I have found

I absolutely love this app! I love the information, beautiful pictures and fun facts about waypoints and they help keep me motivated to walk so I can see the next one. It is the only way I’ll ever be able to walk the AT so it’s a fun adventure. I will absolutely be subscribing as soon as I finish all the free walks. I would also love to see the North Country Trail added in the future if possible, but if not I will still subscribe because this app is 100% worth it!

I got booted out

I was hiking the Appalachian Trail and then it reset. I payed for it but it didn’t let me finish. Was it only good for a certain amount of time? I tried to contact the owner but got no response.

Walk the distance app

Nice concept but the app continues to record my miles incorrectly. Even after I go in and “report missing miles”, it doesn’t always work.

Great walking motivation app

I’ve been looking for this type of app for a while now, after I changed from Fitbit, which has walking challenges on it, to Apple smartwatch which has no challenges on it. I would highly recommend this app if this is the type of exercise challenge that you want, I’ve paid for the full experience and its well worth it, after all we’re can you get motivation like this for 50p a week? Ok my review is done, I’m off for my second walk round London

Love tracking my miles this way

I’ve really enjoyed my virtual walk on the Appalachian Trail. It’s fun to track my miles and put updates on my Facebook page. If I have friends that live near the trail, I tell them that I will be in their neighborhood, which usually makes them smile. Great appWith great behind-the-scenes support. Look forward to continuing on and finishing my AT journey

Adds fun to walks and hikes.

I’ve been an avid hiker for many years never was a step-counter, but when I read an article about Walk The Distance it sounded fun and I decided to give it a try. I just completed the Appalachian Trail and am starting the John Muir Trail today. It’s fun to work toward completing a goal every time you go for a hike, and it adds some motivation to get out there and do it. And every day it tells you how much progress you’ve made. My only reason for giving 4 stars instead of five is that I wanted to go back and find when I started my AT effort and the “history” feature wouldn’t go all the way to the beginning. I highly recommend!

LOVE THIS APP

I’ve tried other apps where I had to enter my steps each day and found it annoying and hard to keep up with. The minimal cost on this app here to virtually walk a trail is worth every penny. My steps/miles go in automatically from my health app on my phone and smartwatch.
I love that you can have friends join you and follow each other, and even compete to see who can walk to a certain place faster.

Pandemic saviour

Hiking on the trail (app) when I could not be hiking in person has been my psychological saviour during the pandemic! Thank you!

Now I am walking on the PCT! Motivating to get up at 6am on a dark winter morning to do a run to finish a section!

Doesn’t work

Looked like an interesting app . Went to try out multiple different maps and nothing happens. Already deleted it
