About
Wānaka Now is the town in your pocket: what's on this week, what's closed, and who to call when it all turns to custard. Made by locals, for locals, across the Upper Clutha.
Free, no sign-up, and not for profit. Just the local information that's usually scattered across a dozen websites and Facebook groups, gathered into one place.
Not a government service: Wānaka Now is an independent app made by locals. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or acting on behalf of the Queenstown Lakes District Council (QLDC), Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency (NZTA), the Department of Conservation (DOC), or any other government body. Any government information in the app is gathered and summarised from public sources; always check the official source for anything official.
What you'll find:
• Road conditions. Live closures and alerts from NZTA and QLDC, the Crown Range status at a glance, and the daily winter road report with convoy times, so you know before you drive.
• What's on. Community events, markets, classes and activities around Wānaka, Hāwea and beyond, plus school term dates.
• Council Watch. Plain-English summaries of council meetings and decisions, and the consultations open for you to have your say. Every summary links to the council's own record.
• Local news. The headlines that affect the Upper Clutha, in one feed.
• Tracks. Hiking and biking tracks with maps, distances and current closures, from town walks to the big days out.
• Eat and drink. Local cafes, restaurants and bars, with the details you need.
• Lost and found. Reunite lost pets and belongings with their people.
Turn on notifications for the things that matter to you, road closures, council alerts and more, and leave the rest off. You choose what you hear about.
