I have given this a 4 star because of that. Although I would have given a 5 star but couldn't because I gave The New York Times a 5 star and that's an amazing app!! Like so good it deserves a 6 star!
Bezos Mouthpiece
The editorial pages are increasingly a war against Social Security and other social spending, while saying nothing about the problems with military spending on wars and tax cuts for the rich. Some of the editorials are just a total boost for anything that Donald Trump does. Besos and his employees clearly know what side their bread is buttered on.

Moral of the Story: Don’t Fire Your Best Writers!
I am Centrist enough that the Post’s sharp veer to the Radical Right was disconcerting, but I just wanted the News and Sports anyways. The wholesale slaughter of the writing staff and elimination of the entire SPorts Center, however, has driven me to the NY Times and The Athletic, where you can enjoy actual writing - great writing - from Humans not Bots.

The Go To for Breaking Unique News First
This paper digs for the big lead. Two recent examples: The story about Open AI’s model breaking out of its constraints and breaking into a company called Hugging Face to obtain data illegally, and a story about Trump’s executive order directing the postal service not to deliver mail-in ballots to states who refuse to deliver their voter rolls to the Feds. I read both stories

Good but not as good or as dependable on articles as before Bezos and his changes.
Bad Add Placement
I don’t mind seeing adds, however, I do not like not being able to type while doing the crossword because an add is placed directly over the keyboard and it reappears 3 seconds in the same place after letting it play out and closing it.
Amazon ad annoyance
Getting more and more fed up with WaPo. There are some good articles still but silly and biased opinion pieces and articles that are short on facts are becoming more abundant. What drives me really crazy is that I can’t read an article without inadvertently and constantly opening up Amazon ads.

Goddamn AT&T ad
I swear to god every time I try to play some crosswords that goddamn AT&T ad pops up right on top of the keyboards with no means to close the ad. I’m about to never read anything Washington post ever publishes and end my AT&T service all together just because of this. Such a bad look for both companies. I get that you guys need ads to run but surely you should consider consumers and give them some room to play some crosswords instead of passive-aggressively pushing me to buy your subscription

why the new ads???
i love doing the daily crossword, and i don’t mind sitting through the little 15 second ad before starting the puzzle. but then. then, the newest update came out and now there’s ad pop ups in-game that COVER THE WHOLE KEYBOARD. and the exit button on the ad doesn’t appear for at least 15-30 seconds. furthermore, once you’ve exited out of the stupid pop-up, you don’t even have enough time to type more than 3 letters before THE SAME AD POPS UP AGAIN AND WONT GO AWAY.
like, washington post doesn’t even make their own crossword, they just use the LA Times crossword every day—so there’s really no excuse for why these ads are being pushed so aggressively. it’s made the app completely unusable.

Sad decline of a serious paper
Poor editing. Lurch to the right. The editorials are wacky right wing talking points. The British leadership of the newsroom is misguided. A shadow of what the Post once was. I only keep the subscription because it was given to me as a gift and someone else is paying for it.

Not the paper it was. Have been a subscriber for over 40 years. The news is restricted as are the opinion pieces. The sports and business sections are a joke. I do not support these government policies but do like honest opinion pieces and plan to subscribe to the Wall Street Journal to secure fair opinion pieces and outstanding and honest business and finance reporting. Bezos has ruined this paper.
