Fix your damn app

It does not work. You pay for something, you want to subscribe to good local journalism, and then it tells you that you havent paid for anything yet.

Fix it. People want to support local journalism and they want what you got FIX THE APP.

Good app for reading news

Gets the job done well. The Home/Latest button is a bit mysterious.

I had previously reported a scrolling problem that rendered the app almost unusable. It took a while, I think it was actually an iPadOS 26 issue, but it was resolved. Communication with the developers and support was good. Thanks to them.

Jan 18/26. Still - Old news not updated

Same old, same old. No change in editorial shown.

I just updated the app and the old editorial from August 14, is still shown as the most recent editorial today, September 15. Why is this app so messed up on posting the recent editorials? I pay for my subscription and I’d appreciate knowing what’s being published as an editorial in these uncertain times of upheaval.

Does the job, one big annoyance

Update: a month later and after latest update 9.59.0, this still happens. Have already cancelled subscription but I'm stuck with it until it expires in seven months.

When I finish reading an article and press the Back arrow, the main screen scrolls to the top so I have to scroll down and try to find where I was to keep reading. Gets annoying fast.

Old news not updated

Editorials out of date

The editorials are often two weeks or more old before added to the app.

Horrible subscriber experience

Despite being logged in, when I click on an article it won’t load fully and says only for subscribers. Worse yet it doesn’t even give an option to login on the article page, only an option to contact us. Trying to support local journalism but they aren’t making it easy.

Hello, we have an active refresh cycle in app that checks for fresh news every few minutes and as soon as our newsroom has new content it syncs automatically. You could also drag down on the home page to refresh the content feed. Hope this helps. Thank you

Annoying banners

Recently they added ‘breaking news’ banners. They are very annoying, appear to stack as multiple articles are assigned that status, and it looks like you can’t deactivate this ‘feature.’ Try again, or at least let us deactivate it.

Hello, the breaking news banners are dismissible, have you tried closing it with the "x" button? we only allow upto 2 banners at a time so that it does not cover the rest of the content

Never get the editorials

On my Record app, there is still, today April 28, only one editorial showing fir the whole of 2023. So disappointing. When friends tell me about interesting info, I search for articles by headline, buy author, and often get nothing. And we pay for this?!?!?!

How do I get the view the actual newspaper???
This app does not give me everything my in each daily newspaper, even as a signed in paid subscription.

Hello, this is our Digital News App, we have another e-paper app which is a pdf version of the daily newspaper called Waterloo Region Record ePaper - have you tried that?

Horrible app

Totally terrible. I changed from the record app on my newspaper subscription which I had used since COVID started and it easy and functionality was great on my iPhone. Since it needed renewed, I am now forced to use this app that is terrible and full of old news, no obituaries when all I want to do is see the actual record paper and press on any article in the paper. I can’t get the newspaper view to enlarge to even see it properly on iPhone.

No longer free. Have to subscribe.

The new update requires you to subscribe to read the articles.
