Very fun game!

There are so many customisation options in this game! It is so simple to find a unique play style, but you can also go super in depth to continue to grow it

Can’t believe this is full ftp

Great games, tons of customisation and very varied. Love it

Stand out game!

I don’t often leave reviews, I’m shocked this game doesn’t seem to be more well known! The character system creates tons of variety in how you play and is super fun from a deck building perspective. Lots of cool options and choices will still having enough of its own design to be charming, not overwhelming.

Just my thoughts

pretty solid base gameplay but they kind of failed to update it enough for it to stay interesting , and now they’re pretty much starting fresh which I look forward to however if they don’t continually add new classes and islands then it will quickly grow stale again. Anyway if you’re looking for a laidback turn-based RPG with a bit of grinding and well done character design then this is a pretty good game, looking forward to the sacriers.

Estado lamentable

Dear Devs and newcomers

This review is for future players, but also for Ankama Studio, who has built something truly special.

Two Quick Notes

1. This review is meant for both players and developers.

I want this to reach the devs, because the foundation they’ve created is remarkable, and the potential for growth is enormous.

2. I’m aware the game is in Early Access.

I’ve heard the major overhaul is scheduled for December 2025 or early 2026. If I may offer advice:
January would be a stronger launch window.
A new year brings fresh momentum, fresh downloads, and fresh attention—especially for a franchise with such a loyal built-in fanbase.

⭐ Spoiler Warning Ahead ⭐

I began playing roughly two months ago, and here’s my full, unfiltered experience:

You awaken as a lone castaway—an amnesiac survivor of the rising seas in the post-Cataclysm Krozmoz universe. Ankama’s worldbuilding has always been rich, and even in its early stages, Waven’s narrative threads tie back to its MMORPG predecessors in subtle ways.

Character Selection

You choose from the iconic class archetypes:
• Healer
• Warrior
• Archer
• Mage
• Assassin

One thing I deeply appreciate is the subclass system, which allows you to personalize your playstyle without overwhelming new players. Even though we can’t fully customize hairstyles and facial features, the identity of each class—their aesthetic, lore, and combat philosophy—is so distinct that I didn’t feel robbed of customization.

Setting Sail

Your first vessel is a humble wooden raft. It’s symbolic: the world has drowned, and you’re literally piecing your future together.

From there, you begin navigating between islands—each one a micro-environment filled with lore, secrets, and narrative flavor. Ankama’s environmental design has always been artistic and whimsical, and they achieved that same charm here.

When you reach Astrub, it becomes clear how much love went into the world-building. NPCs reference events, responsibilities, and lore that makes the world feel lived in.

The combat difficulty ramps up fast—you can’t just mindlessly push forward. You need:
• proper spell upgrades
• a solid grasp of positioning
• a subclass that complements your playstyle

This game demands strategy, not button-mashing.

A Surprisingly Emotional Story

Despite its bright, stylized visuals, Waven explores dark themes—mind control, loss, moral conflict, and personal sacrifice.

The situation with Oorest floored me. You fight side by side, build a bond, then suddenly you’re forced into a tragic battle against him because he’s being manipulated. It’s emotional, challenging, and haunting—proof that this game has narrative weight far beyond what its art style suggests.

I’m still working through the story, but I can confidently say:
this is one of the most captivating mobile RPG experiences I’ve had in years.

Pros — What Waven Does Exceptionally Well

1. Dynamic and nuanced battle system

The combat is reminiscent of Divinity: Original Sin 2, blending tactical board-style mechanics with flowing, reactive abilities. The learning curve is approachable, but mastery demands:
• battlefield awareness
• synergy between spells and companions
• proper subclass selection

This is rare for a mobile game.

2. A mesmerizing world with artistic identity

Every island feels handcrafted. Some have whimsical charm; others are somber or eerie. Ankama’s art direction has always been unique, and in Waven, the world feels alive, interconnected, and meaningful.

3. A story with emotional depth

It’s refreshing to see a mobile RPG with:
• memorable characters
• impactful plot twists
• fully voiced dialogue
• surprising emotional stakes

4. Zero pay-to-win progression

You get stronger by playing, not by paying.
Your time feels respected—a rarity in today’s mobile market.

5. Class diversity and replay value

Every class and subclass is mechanically distinct. Companions fundamentally change the flow of battle, introducing new synergies and strategies.

It’s clear a lot of thought went into build diversity.

Cons — What Holds Waven Back (For Now)

1. Dungeons are repetitive and formulaic

The layout and pacing become predictable.
And for a mode built to reward players, the loot is inconsistent and often disappointing.

Suggestion:
Guarantee at least one meaningful drop per dungeon.

2. Spell progression is heavily luck-dependent

I’m level 29, yet some spells are stuck at level 14 simply because I haven’t received their upgrade fragments from random loot boxes.

A character’s strength shouldn’t be bottlenecked by RNG.

3. PvP is practically inaccessible

Matchmaking often takes 10+ minutes with no results.
Considering how amazing Waven’s combat system is, PvP could be a brilliant competitive experience. But right now, it’s simply not functioning.

4. The boat system feels underutilized
You start with a modest raft and… stay with it for far too long.
The world is full of beautifully designed ships, yet players don’t have meaningful access to them.
Please let us earn better vessels—cosmetic or functional.
That red velvet ship at the start? Players would love it.

5. Concern about future monetization
Rumors about pay-to-progress mechanics worry me.
Waven is great because it respects the player’s time and effort. Introducing paid progression risks damaging the core integrity of the game.
Battle passes and cosmetics are fine—just draw the line there. The artistic soul of the game depends on it.

Final Thoughts

Waven is one of the most refreshing mobile RPGs I’ve played in years. It blends deep tactical combat, vibrant world-building, and emotional storytelling in a way that few mobile titles ever attempt.
Is it perfect? Not yet.
But the foundation is phenomenal, and with the foundation is phenomenal, and with the upcoming overhaul, I can’t wait.

To the devs:
You’ve created something extraordinary. Please continue nurturing it without compromising its integrity. I’ll be playing it long after launch. I’m a fan

Game is no longer supported

This game had huge potential, challenging fights, intricate builds, interesting playstyles, and a decent story, however it is becoming pretty clear that they either don’t know how to finish the game, or have no intention of doing so. I really hope that and update comes out and I change my rating

Atualiza porvavor

Character deleted

My character was just straight up deleted. Beat almost all of the content in the game and straight up gone. What the f?

Can’t wait till the full release

I like the game and I like the classes you can pick while I do feel some form of clunkiness with the card style and the powers you can use are very generic. It has a lot of I do wish that the world was much more lively, cause it kinda sometimes feel like the islands kinda make you want to pick what in me you want to fight and you can stay there for the whole time to grind up your levels. It doesn’t feel alive. That is one and the clone of the card style with the magic. I do wish that there was more classes and at least allow you to change the color of your character freely so not everyone looks so generic there’s a lot of potential and I think this game will be a good game if you let it get a chance to play it when you find your ideal class, the game really opens up

Didn’t last long

Just let people play the game. The starting tutorial taking you in and out of menus and stuff is horrible. Uninstalled after the first few minutes. Oh and stop having big downloads inside your games after downloading from the App Store. It’s very misleading.

Finally a Challenge

This is one of the best tactical games in the AppStore, and I’ve played well over 600 of them, gone with the brain dead combat system, welcome to Waven.
It is challenging
Fun
Cooperative
Complex and fully voice acted with a nice story and stunning aesthetic.

How the hells bells is this not more popular in here, it makes no sense because this deserves more recognition for sure!
Well done!

Only note, I’d love some more aesthetic customisation

This game is fun to play, but I have a problem with it always glitching for no reason.

Endlich kein Pay to Win
