About
After every run, Why I Lost reads your own decisions back to you and says why the run was won or lost.
Why I Lost is a turn-based life and money simulator. One turn is one month. You start with a job, a salary, rent to pay and a dream to chase: a business of your own, a flat to rent out, a place to live in or a dividend portfolio. Each month the bills settle, one to three event cards arrive, and every choice costs something: money, time or risk.
Time is the real currency. A job takes most of your hours. A course, a side business or a second job takes more, and energy drains with every hour you commit. Passive income is what buys the hours back.
Every month you can
• answer event cards: a breakdown, a rent increase, a promotion offer. Every answer is a trade-off, and some consequences arrive months later;
• buy and sell assets, borrow and repay, change jobs, study, take a week off.
In the first scenario you have 72 months. Passive income has to cover a quarter of your expenses for six months in a row, with a cushion in cash, no consumer debt, and free time to spare.
The report
When a run ends, the After-Action Report ranks the decisions that mattered, says why each one did, and names the rule behind it.
What is free, and what the full game adds
The first scenario and its report are free to play from start to finish. A one-time purchase unlocks the sandbox: a whole working life from age 20 or 28 to retirement at 60, with no deadline, eight dreams, three starting jobs and the same report. There are no subscriptions, no ads and no accounts, and the game collects no data.
Made for five-minute sessions. Plays in Ukrainian, English and Spanish, in light and dark mode.
Why I Lost is a game. Its numbers are invented, and it is not financial advice.
