About
Track decisions as they unfold.
WhyLens is a quiet place to keep the decisions that matter — what you were weighing, what you chose, why you chose it, and what actually happened later.
Most decisions are made in a moment and then forgotten. WhyLens keeps the reasoning, so that when the outcome finally arrives, you can still see the thinking it came from.
Use WhyLens to:
- capture ideas before they are lost
- weigh the paths inside an idea, with points for and against
- turn an idea into a decision and keep the paths not taken
- record what you chose and why
- write down the assumptions it rests on
- add short check-ins while the decision unfolds
- mark when the context has changed
- close a decision when it is reversed, replaced, or let go
- review it later, with distance
- compare expected and actual outcomes
- see how well your confidence matched real outcomes
- track how your assumptions held up
- notice patterns across your decisions over time
PRIVATE BY DESIGN
Everything stays on your device. No account is required. Nothing you write is uploaded, analyzed, or sold. Export gives you a PDF or CSV copy of your own data whenever you want one.
WHAT WHYLENS WILL NOT DO
It will not tell you what to choose. It will not score, rank, or recommend your options. It will not predict success. There are no streaks, no badges, and no pressure to open the app every day. Insights come only from what you wrote, and only once there is enough of it to say something honest.
WhyLens is free for up to five active decisions. An optional subscription adds unlimited decisions, insights, export, and finer control over review timing.
For people who make decisions they cannot easily undo — about work, money, health, relationships, or direction — and who would like to remember how they were thinking at the time.

What's New in WhyLens
2.3
July 28, 2026
Two additions — one for before a decision, one for after. - Options — expand an idea into the paths you are weighing, each with its own points for and against. Choose one and it becomes a decision; the paths not taken stay with it. - Closed decisions — mark one reversed, replaced, or let go. A replaced decision links to the one that took its place. Nothing is scored or ranked. Plus small fixes and refinements.
