Great start!

This app is a great start to what could be a really useful tool for those into native gardening.

I would love the ability to customize the planting areas more.

But the biggest thing that I see that could lead to quick improvements is just adding more plant options. I’d tackle our most populated eco regions first, as a DFW person, I’d even say Austin needs more options sooner than we do.

I’m not a landscaper by trade, so this app did help me get started in my design, but ultimately I needed to draw what I wanted on paper and used the ladybird and NPSOT databases to help inform my plant choices, heights, bloom color, soil, light, spread, etc.

Another but more nice to have is the ability to view your design from the ground view instead of the sky. Being able to see what a bed could look like from the street is super helpful in planning something beautiful AND eco friendly.

Great work to the devs on this one. Y’all are truly using technology here to make the world a better place. Thank you!

Very helpful care info

I really appreciate the care info in this app. I have a LOT of native plants, but finding specific care instructions has not been as easy as I need it to be. This app solved that problem for me. Thanks!

SO EXCITED ABOUT THIS!

I LOVE how you can enter your zip code and find native plants that thrive in your area- this is SO cool.

My only suggestion: Add some sort of Take a picture of a plant -> Plant identifier feature for an extra subscription fee or something! That would be so awesome for raising some $$ for y’all and I’d buy it in a heartbeat!!!

I’m going to be promoting this app because I TRULY believe there are a TON of Texas Gardeners and particularly Houston gardeners that would LOVE this.

I’ll definitely planning trips to shop with the sponsors! They funded an INCREDIBLE app here!!! ❤️🥹

Great Planning App for Texas Gardeners!

I love this little app, it packs a big punch! I’ve used it to layout and install new garden beds from start to finish, find nurseries in my area, and just get general gardening advice. One of my favorite things about the robust plan layout is that the plants appear on the plan according to their nature footprint. So helpful to avoid overplanting. Looking forward to future releases that might include some of our wonderful small native trees like kidneywood, Texas black persimmon, and Anacacho orchid in the database.

Great App but…

Such a great resource for working with natives in pots, beds and prairies but there really needs to be a back button on every page. If you are just perusing the site and checking boxes (required) to move on to the next page you end up being stuck. Want to see what would do well in garden beds in your zip code? You can’t leave that segment and see what would do well in pots until you check all the completion boxes. Otherwise a good app for those interested in native plants.

You can edit a Project right up until the point where you plant it by using either the back button in the top left corner of the screen, or the edit (pencil) icon in the top right corner of your screen. Each Project is limited to one bed type, so if you want to explore plants for pots, beds, and prairies, we recommend creating a new Project for each of those bed types. Great app

Love this app so far! The only issue I have is that I can’t figure out how to add a second project. It has instructions to tap a plus sign but I see no plus sign in the upper right corner for creating a second project (only when creating the first project). Thanks for any advice.

So glad you're loving Wild Thumb! To create another Project, please tap the center icon at the bottom of your screen (looks like a shovel and a flower) to navigate to the Projects page. That will bring you to a list of your Projects. From there, tap the plus sign (+) in the top right to create a new Project. If you're still having trouble please email support@pollinatorsandprairies.org and we will offer further assistance.

Needs work

I was very interested in using this app. However it requires registration to access and the registration process will not allow me to log in. It states it is supposed to send a verification email but one was never received after several attempts. I even checked the junk mail folder. Nothing there and no way to resend it.

Blind and vision impaired people like gardening also.

I heard about your app on NPR this morning and downloaded it. Already, I found that your app is not fully accessible to screen reader users. Of course my vision impairment won’t change the fact that I can’t see pictures of plants as well as other people, but the check boxes in your set up cannot be recognized with VoiceOver on my iPhone. I had to turn VoiceOver off and get assistance to check the boxes that apply. Also, the buttons at the bottom of the screen do not say what their function is. When I click on them, my iPhone just says “button” and won’t say what the button does. When will app developers get it through their heads that their apps need to be checked out with all accessibility features so that they work as well as possible for everyone? I’m honestly tired of writing app developers about this issue and I’m tired of being left out because they won’t use the correct technology to program the app to be fully accessible or as accessible as possible. Will you please fix these issues. If you do, I will update this review.

Review Change

I sent a previous review that I want to change. I did figure out that I could see the plants. I thought I was going to be forced to do some project that I wasn’t ready to do before getting deeper into the app. I’m going to spend a bit more time on the app before further review - perhaps I just haven’t figured out everything in navigating it. One thing though - I thought the app was faulty because it took hours for the confirmation email to arrive before I could even look at it.

Fun & functional app for my native plant garden!

I have really enjoyed this app! I was paying $35 a year for another gardening app, but this one is free and all about Texas native plants, which is where I live and what I want to plant. I love the look, the design your garden functionality, that it is based on decorations and the step by step approach. There is so much good information about plants too. Wild Thumb is helping me become a green thumb. 😊
