Nothing was correct

I’m restoring an old boat, so I’ve been trying to get Wood around the yard. I decided to test this at my local lumber store and literally every single one was wrong. How do I get my money back? There’s no button for your account or anything.

Response from developer

Hi, thank you for your feedback and so sorry to hear that the woods identified came back incorrectly. Lighting and image quality play a large factor in the scans accuracy. we have been working on and recently shipped a new update with improved model accuracy, and also a new feature for other likely matches, so it gives the best rundown of possible species. Thank you for your feedback.

Wood identifier

Incorrectly identified 10 different woods. Not every wood is Oak! If this cannot be corrected. I want a refund

Response from developer

Hi, thank you for your feedback and so sorry to hear that the woods identified came back incorrectly. Lighting and image quality play a large factor in the scans accuracy. Birch for example in a low dimmed room may look like a darker wood to the scanner. When scanning please ensure quality images and good lighting for best results. We have also implemented a confidence score on our app to help users understand the confidence of the result. Please also note when the lighting is low, confidence for a darker wood may come back higher as the lighting makes it appear to the model as a darker wood. Again thank you for your feedback and apologies that the scans haven't come back as you expected. If you wish to reach out please do so on our email listed on our privacy policy and terms of service.

Scanned twice- both way off

I had a piece of freshly cut wood in Wisconsin. I wanted to know if it was birch or Aspen. The first scan said Teak, the second scan said Mahogany. Neither of those grow in Wisconsin and I don’t think they have white bark. I want to cancel the app.

Three scans, three wrong.

I scanned three completely different pieces of wood, which I knew the identity of and it got all three wrong.

Same wood/3 different IDs

I took 3 photos of the same box top and it identified it as Maple, Mahogany and Teak. I still don’t know what it is.

Response from developer

Hi there, thank you for your feedback and so sorry to hear that the woods identified came back incorrectly. Sometimes the reader can come back incorrectly and identify similar wood types (in thise case durable hardwoods), as lighting/angle/image quality and other factors can effect the output. When scanning please aim app directly at the wood type. We are also working on a confidence score and 'other possible species' feature to inform users. Thank you for your patience :)

1 out of 5 Species

Only one of the five pieces of lumber species I submitted for ID came back correct. I submitted a pic of a walnut butchers block, and it identified it correctly. However, it totally missed the specie type of white oak, simply called it “oak”; Cherry, called it red oak; Pecan, called it Mahogany; and Ash, called it Birch. At least I gave it a shot.

Hi there, we are really sorry to hear that the woods identified came back incorrectly. We are always working on improving our model and increasing the accuracy of our scans. As right now the app is a free app, we are working on refining the model. The app is currently in the stages of development. Thank you for your feedback and patience :)
