What's New in Word

2.0.0

August 11, 2026

Version 2.0 is the biggest update since launch — Word-l-lator now solves a lot more than Wordle. FOUR NEW GAME MODES Choose your puzzle from the new Games picker and work 2, 4, 8, or 16 boards at once: • Dordle — 2 boards, 7 guesses • Quordle — 4 boards, 9 guesses • Octordle — 8 boards, 13 guesses • Sedecordle — 16 boards, 21 guesses Every board shares the same guess, but each one keeps its own colors and its own list of possible answers. SMARTER SUGGESTIONS The suggestion engine has been rebuilt. Instead of ranking words by letter frequency, it now scores each candidate by how much it will actually narrow the field — so it can pull apart a stubborn family like LIGHT / FIGHT / SIGHT / TIGHT / RIGHT instead of leaving you to guess. It will also recommend "scout" words that can't win the board on their own but split the remaining answers fastest, and it steps around the plurals and past-tense forms that puzzle answers rarely use. In multi-board modes it scores every guess across all your unsolved boards at once. NOW ON MAC Word-l-lator runs on your Mac, with full support for typing guesses on a hardware keyboard. Press 1, 2, or 3 to set a tile to gray, yellow, or green, and use the arrow keys to move along the row. BUILT FOR MULTI-BOARD PLAY • A board strip keeps every board a tap away, with the one you're working on always in view • The keyboard shows what you know per board — split down the middle in Dordle, in four quadrants for Quordle • Solved boards tidy themselves away instead of showing empty rows • Word-l-lator now reminds you to check the other boards before starting the next round, so a board never advances on colors you never entered UNDO One mis-tapped tile no longer means starting over. Undo steps back to the previous round with your letters and colors intact, so you can fix the mistake and carry on — a real rescue in Octordle and Sedecordle. ALSO NEW • Refreshed onboarding that explains the game you actually picked • Helpful tips built into the game screen • A warning if a guess isn't in the dictionary • Send feedback to us right from the app • Full Dynamic Type support, and VoiceOver now describes the keyboard board by board FIXES • Fixed 64 valid words starting with "N" being wrongly flagged as not in the dictionary • Fixed crashes and a hang when opening the mode picker, candidates, help, or feedback on Mac • Fixed keyboard colors describing only the board you had in focus rather than all of them • Fixed low contrast in dark mode, cleaned up the help text, and stopped Reset from firing on an empty board Thanks for playing — and for all the feedback that shaped this release.
