About

Wordset teaches vocabulary and nothing else. For every word it answers four questions: how do you say it, how do you spell it, where is it actually used, and, for Japanese, how do you write it. JAPANESE AND SWISS GERMAN 1,597 Japanese words and 1,739 Swiss German (Zürich dialect) words, ordered by how often they are really used, checked for accuracy and free of duplicates. HEAR IT Every word is recorded in a native voice. Japanese and Swiss German also come with example sentences you can play. READ IT Japanese words show kanji, kana and romaji together. Romaji sits under every kana by default, so you can start before you can read hiragana, and switch it off in Settings when you no longer need it. WRITE IT Trace kana and practise kanji stroke by stroke, in the right order, on the character sheet. REMEMBER IT Sessions use spaced repetition (the FSRS algorithm), so a word comes back just before you would forget it. Fill-in-the-blank practice puts words back into their sentences. The progress view shows only what your reviews support; it will not invent a streak. PRIVATE BY DESIGN Wordset runs entirely on your phone. No account, no sign-in, no server, no analytics, no ads. It never connects to the internet. Your progress stays on your device. ALSO INSIDE A switch in Settings reveals twelve more word sets (Spanish, French, Korean, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, Chinese, Arabic, Hindi, English and Argentine Spanish), each with native-voice audio. They are marked as not actively maintained, and they are there if you want them. Made by one developer who is learning both languages with it.
