About

Workword helps foreign and migrant workers learn the Dutch and English they need on the job — not generic tourist phrases, but the vocabulary, dialogues, and listening skills that matter in real workplaces. General language apps often miss the tools, safety instructions, customer interactions, and daily routines of welding halls, kitchens, meat-processing floors, and other labour-intensive environments. Workword is built for that gap. WHO IT’S FOR Learners People who are new to a workplace language and need fast, practical progress: understanding a supervisor, following a safety briefing, taking an order, or naming the right tool. Lessons are short (typically a few minutes), audio-first where it helps, and designed for adults — professional in tone, not childish gamification. Employers and teams Companies that hire foreign staff and want faster onboarding, clearer communication, and stronger safety-language readiness. Employers can invite learners with a code or invite link and follow completion in a privacy-bounded way. WHAT YOU LEARN Each sector track focuses on workplace reality: • Vocabulary — tools, materials, actions, roles, and safety terms • Situational dialogues — realistic scenarios with colleagues, supervisors, and customers • Safety-critical language — priority phrases and warnings early in the path • Listening practice — workplace-style audio to build comprehension Alongside workplace paths, Workword offers an optional A1 Official Exam Prep track for your target language: • Dutch — practice aligned to the Basisexamen inburgering format (reading, speaking, and knowledge of Dutch society) • English — practice aligned to Cambridge A2 Key (formerly KET), with an A1-band pass goal on Workword mocks Exam Prep includes general A1 lexicon, grammar, skill modules, and timed mock exams. Passing a Workword mock is practice only — it is not an official DUO or Cambridge result. You book and take the real exam with the official provider. You choose a target language (Dutch or English at launch focus) and a source/UI language suited to common hiring demographics. SECTORS Workword starts with tracks such as welding, hospitality, and butchery / meat processing, and expands into additional workplace paths (for example construction, logistics, healthcare support, and related fields) as content grows. BUILT FOR REAL WORK Content is structured for real jobs and intended to stay practical as tools and terminology change. Offline-friendly design matters: many learners study on breaks, commutes, or sites with limited connectivity. Privacy matters too — especially when an employer is involved.
