PERFECT

This is a wonderful app, it is minimalist, free, aesthetically pleasing and has truly interesting words with historical context added. I saved it as a widget and it shows a new word every day. You can save your favorite words to view later. It's exactly what I wanted.

Great App & App Creator

The app itself is wonderful, but the thing that is even greater is the creator of the app. I left feedback about if there could be an option for different languages/accents for the voice and received an immediate email about that happening. The speed in which the creator integrated this feature was incredible. Communication was amazing. They followed up and everything. Highly recommend! Thank you, Jin Quan!

Incorrect definitions

I downloaded the app to learn new words, obviously. The first word I saw was “Quemadero,” and it was defined as “the peculiar guilt of enjoying something you know is bad for you.” I looked it up to see it used in a sentence, and found that that is NOT the definition of quemadero. I’m not trying to learn new words incorrectly. It seems as though the developers need to do more fact checking before pushing out their words.

Thank you for your feedback. My apologies for this, it was the wrong definition. I have updated the validation process to fact check better, hopefully this will be avoided going forward. I have also corrected the meaning of "Quemadero", so new users won't see the wrong definition.

Exactly what I was searching for just to learn something new everyday! So many apps are behind paywalls or logins, this just takes you right to the WOTD 🙌 even more lovely--it's beautiful and simple and is exactly what I was searching for among tons of (kinda unnecessarily) complex and flashy apps. Just one complaint

This is a good app, I like the design and that you don’t have to pay for it. Buuuut I’m pretty sure some of these words don’t exist, because the only thing that pops up when you search some of them up is something from this app.

Appreciate your feedback. I have done a full audit of all past words and found only 1 word with no basis anywhere, "quoparenthesis". I think that is what you are referring to. I will strengthen my validation process. Here is the rest of my audit: 70.6% validated against dictionaries, 18.4% are neologisms (have basis somewhere but might not be in modern dictionaries), 10.3% are loanwords (non-English words but can be expressed in English). Neologisms and loanwords are popular among users as they express something not easily found in usual English. Hope you can update to a 5-star. A 3-star is impactful for an indie app like this.

Thank you for the nice review! This is a hobby project, that is why I can maintain it without ads or subscription. I am curious to explore small monetisation but I want to include my users in this process so as not to betray the expectation of "no ads or subscription". Honestly, 10/10.

No hidden subscription bs, I can tell you that (which is sadly what nearly every form of educational or entertainment service has nowadays).

I’ve been using this WOTD app for a few hours and already, I’m excited for the next new word to learn. It’s a clean, well-thought out app. Kudos to you, developer. May both sides of your pillows remain cool.

Amazing

No random walkthroughs or pay screens- just straight to the word of the day. There’s an archive of previous words as well with a favoriting system. The widgets look nice as well!
It would be nice to have genre-specific words, like if I were trying to learn vocabulary of a certain subject, but 5 star app still.

Thank you for your review! The concept is that everyone sees the same word each day, and it will be an uncommon word, so not suited for learning. Nevertheless, I appreciate your feedback and will think about how to cater to learners.

Great app

This app does exactly as described, you can do widget on lockscreen or homescreen. The only improvement I suggest is that the word selection should be words that someone is more likely to use in everyday life
