WARNING: Subscription Required - Buyer beware
I thought this might be what I was looking for: an app for my novel writing that would track my word counts and allow me to organize my writing by chapter/scene/story. The screenshots looked like it fit the bill so I purchased. Never got to see the full app because a subscription is required to use. Did not see that in any reviews or product details. :/

Something screwy here
Looking back on reviews and revisions, this app has been around since 2011 (it's now mid-2016) and both the history and the way things work (or don't work) leaves one with the impression the developer(s) played around with an idea, released it, made a few mods (not necessarily improvements), then abandoned it. The version I'm using on an IPad works to some degree, but there are so many loose ends and no way to get clarification or fixes (try going to the developer website) that it's frustrating to use. Like others have said, it risky to use because your work could disappear and your wouldn't know what happened. Bottom line developer(s) fix it or call it a lost cause and stop wasting people's time.

MAJOR ACCESSIBILITY ISSUES USING VOICEOVER
FFirst of all, one has to turn VO off in order to get into the actual app. The swipe gesture does not work, and there is not an alternate element to tap. The login screen is accessible. After that, the buttons along the bottom have no text labels, making them unusable.
I did push each one, to find out if the change would be self-explanatory. It was not.
Please update this so that VoiceOver users can use it, too.

Best Markdown Writing App on iOS
If you need to write Markdown for let's github or other projects on your phone and you don't want to pull the laptop out or don't have it you can use this and save it for later. The only con would be it doesn't let you upload them anywhere so you pretty much have to copy and paste the text somewhere else to be saved but it does have a nice preview button and includes ghetto syntax on top of the keyboard for easy Markdown writing.

Excellent start!
Purchased the app because I was looking for an iPhone writing app that supported markdown. On that I'd say it works great. A bit sparse on the features at the moment, but I'm sure the developers will continue to innovate as they issue updates.
I'd love to see support for additional fonts, a night time writing mode, sync options using iCloud, Dropbox, etc., and of course a share button with export to PDF.
With some more updates I can see myself giving a full 5 stars.

Where is my stuff?
I've been writing with the previous version of this app since 2011. Upon trying to open it today I find this new icon and name for the app. All my entries seem to be gone! What kind of app upgrade does this? Years of pages entrusted to this app so you make it disappear like it's nothing worth to the user? Fix this immediately. Nice way to undermine your own brand reputation.

Turning pages....
App is simple in design, but could be better. Like the choice of papers, especially parchment. Also has my favorite lettering which most don't ( Zapfino ), yet there is room for improvement. Was hoping it could be more like a book with turning pages. Although it's nice to be able to add a photo and your name, I find that the "age" of person should be removed as it is not important. One thing that has always annoyed me about journal apps is that a date is placed on every thing you write. You should make that an option so that those who want it can use it. Lastly it would be great if we could place our writings in the order we would like to see them ( hence the removal of the date. Add these options and I will definitely give 5 stars.

Your reputation is now stained
I complained immediately about the January update. This used to be a fantastic application. But now, it just isn't. I won't be purchasing any insomniac industries applications anymore. All you need to do to get everyone off your back is to return us to the pre-update version. We'd all be perfectly happy. But you decided to keep us frustrated for months.

Updates don't make sense. Devote some time to fix it, people paid for this app
The new update broke the screen rotate. You have to go into settings to get the screen to rotate with ipad. If you are going to update the app atleast test it. No full screen view. Scrolling is dysfunctional. You see have the screen and scrolling isn't automatic. Clearly this was not testing. If you are going to charge for this app then make it work correctly. e.g full screen, rotation, scrolling, customizations. This application needs HELP!!!!

Help with forgetting password.
I like the app a lot! I forgot my password and I have entries from over a year ago that I don't want to loose if I delete. I don't know how to contact the company since I don't have Facebook. What should I do ):?
Not a bad app
this app is actually a fairly well made journaling app, it does what it needs to do and i enjoy using it very much, it has helped me organize many of my thoughts during a rough period i am going through, however I do wish that there would be support to be able to switch apps without having to lose and retype an entire entry. I do not like that it can not run in the background like most new iphone/ipad apps. I have lost many entries simply because i did not hit save when trying to check on something else on my ipad. some stylus/handwritting support would also be nice, but overall i am happy with this app

How about a way to print my journal later?
I love your app for the password protection. I'm using it to record weekly journal entries about my baby girl. The only thing I'd change is to have a way to compile all the entries later and have them printed. I'd love to be able to show my little girl someday by handing her a book with the entries chronicling her first couple years.

iJournal
I like the app as we write up our trip day by day. The drawback, you cannot download the information to a home computer. You have to retype the information if you want to make a disk or a book like we do. Expensive for just a note taker on an iPad.
A little frustrated
This is a relatively expensive app for something kind of simple. Am I missing something or is there no way to write an entry longer than one screen/page? At a certain point, what I am typing goes under the key pad and I can't see it anymore -- no pinch or swipe control. Nice that I can use landscape mode for the bigger keypad, but the no scrolling problem happens sooner in that mode.
I agree that it would be useful to be able to export or at least email entries. I also wish I could add pictures to entries. And I wish I could reformat font and page background after I save an entry.
I am still working with this as a journal app, but I can't imagine using it for note taking.

I like it
I like using this journal however there is so much more that can be done to make it a better tool. The ability to add a photo to your entry is my main desire for this app. I would also like the ability to change font and highlight.
Awesome alternative to paper
Why keep using paper when you can save space with a journal app? This keeps everything dated and organized, plus you can choose different paper textures and fonts. I just wish there were more fonts to choose from. Best part: it is password protected!
So far, so good
Just had a big disappointment with a journal app (LeJournal) that I had wanted for awhile but turned out to be not so great. Then I remembered that I had downloaded a journal that was free for one day the previous day. That was iJournal.
So far, I am very happy with this journal. All the customization that was missing in LeJournal is in this journal. It doesn't have the old-journal feel of LeJournal with the flipping pages instead of scrolling, but at least it doesn't crash, and you can change fonts and paper and themes every day if you want.
I agree with the other reviewers that there should be some way to export an entry or all the entries. Even emailing an entry would be great.
I have been looking for a journal to replace my more teenage-oriented 9 Square Diary, but sadly, I have not found anything as customizable, adaptable, and all around useful as 9 Square. I am 37 and would really like a "grown up" journal, but have yet to find one that nears the sophistication and with developers as responsive as 9 Square.

I would like to see some updates
This is a very good app, but I don't like the fact that I can't email my entries, there is not auto save in the event you exist the app unknowingly, I don't like that I cannot go back and change my font and background on my entry whenever I want to as often as I want. Once a entry is added to this app it can only live on this app...please update this to make it more flexible.

excellent
This is a great way to keep a journal on your iPad. As a note app, it does need a couple more features to really compete, but like the others said, not a bad start for the application. I really love the way everything is laid out, and if they keep updating this I could really see it being a big player on the store.

Love it!!!!!!!
I absolutely love that I can put a photo of myself on the front home page of the app. The journal itself is very customizable with different pages and fonts. Am looking forward to the updates!
