I was lucky enough to receive the XNote AI set as a gift, and I didn’t expect it to impress me this much. It comes with the smart pen and notebook, and when you write on the paper, your notes automatically sync to the app.
It honestly feels futuristic. You still get the natural feeling of writing by hand, but everything is saved digitally in seconds. No scanning, no extra steps ,just write and it appears in the app.
The AI tools inside the app make it even better. It helps organize, summarize, and turn simple notes into something more structured and useful.
If you love writing on real paper but also want the power of digital organization, this is such a smart and seamless solution. Really impressed with how smoothly it works.

Easy to use and great to have notes on computer ready to refer too!
TOTAL SCAM
This is a total SCAM! STAY AWAY AND DO NOT GIVE THEM A PENNY! They promise this will capture you product hand sketches - IT DOES NOT! They promise it caputre your hand diagrams - IT DOES NOT! You know what it does - same thing if you would take a photo of your hand pages with a phone and then did an ocr on the image, which even the phone now does by itself. Certainly, if you'd import the photo of your pages into GPT or Claude - you would get immeasurably better results without this ridiculously overpriced useless hardware. Why do you think they give you only 14 days to return?! By the time you figure out that you have wasted your money away, it’s too late to return. STAY AWAY FROM THESE SCAMMERS - THEIR TECH IS USELESS AND THEIR HARDWARE IS LESS THAN SUBPAR IN EVERY SINGLE RESPECT.

Best Tool Ever
You know you’re looking for something that really makes everything you do feel good. First was Windows Mobile, then the addition of a smart pen. First time around didn’t take. Forward 10 years and IPhone and stylus finally pen with typing as you write along with AI. What will be next? Happy to participate as XNote filled a big gap for me.

Kick starter XNote
I received my over a year ago. I thought it was a work in progress when it was first released. The X note appears to be getting better and better with every update. I actually put down my x note for a couple months. I find myself reviewing what I’ve written months later on the app. I now use a couple notebooks. The small notebook, To keep track of my recipes. And I use another small notebook to keep track of my weight and vitals.
Two large ones one for all my work notes. The 2nd for my personal journal.
The app itself, I like using it in situations where I can’t take a notebook to such as a gym, before speeches, beach and low light areas and reviewing notes there.

Pretty good
Love the concept put the pen battery runs out quickly so for long days and classes it didn’t upload the notes. Also, not the smoothest writing pen. Would be great if there were color options for those that are visual learners./like to color code topics etc…
Getting Better and Better
I partly disagree with another reviewer that it is a flaw to depend on special paper to use XNote Ai. To the best of my knowledge all of these devices use this sort of technology, including livescribe. Without a standard background, such as the nearly invisible dots on the X note paper, it would be very challenging to perform handwriting recognition. Even simple things, such as changes in the angle or rotation of the pen in one’s hand might impact recognition. As it stands, the recognition with X note is excellent. The other advertised features are now working. One might argue that ambient listening technology could replace devices such as the X note. However, for those of us who depend upon actual hand writing to improve memorization and cognition, I believe the XNote AI will remain very useful.

Doesn’t work
I went through multiple rounds of troubleshooting but I had not successfully captured any notes. They don’t provide any trouble shooting or support so if you want to waste your money, instead of buying this product, you should burn it on Draft Kings or donate to the Red Cross
I want to love it!!
The idea is amazing but as others have said the app keeps crashing when I try to export something I have written. It also doesn’t save what I write. Would be nice to use any notebook instead of a specialized one. There must be a way!
Lots of Potential but Not Ready for Prime Time
A year later and the app is still dysfunctional. Constantly losing notes. Right now the first 33 pages of a notebook disappeared. That’s just the worst of it. It has a long list of potential things to add to my calendar on a date 55 years ago. Yes, that would be 1970. So wonderful idea and potential but support doesn’t respond to anyone as best as I can tell. People are also crying into the wind on Discord. My new LivePen from Livescribe is working great, if they added some Ai and calendar functions to it, there would be no need for XNote to exist. Though as things stand, it exists but doesn’t work, unless you want to use it as a regular old ball point pen.

Awesome system for note taking
I love my XNote. It’s such a brilliant system. Write with a pen, which I love, and still be able to search my notes. They paired my two favorites- handwriting and search. I love the idea and the tech. Pen writes smooth and is a nice weight and shape. Two thumbs up!
Technology is disappointing
It’s kind of cool, but the product seems pointless if special paper is required for the pen to work. Why not just write on a tablet with a stylus, which is what most people who prefer digital note taking already do? A bigger innovation would be a pen that can transmit the direction/motion/pressure from any surface into a digital document (which incidentally is how it has been advertised as of December 2024……)

Much room for improvement
I love the idea of this app! And on the occasion it works, it is very cool and handy. But I have been frustrated with several aspects which have not improved in spite of many months of waiting for updates, knowing others are experiencing the same things.
1) I have been very frustrated with the offline sync feature which seems to be completely nonfunctional. I will write a page or two of text (with the pen charged!) and then when I open the app to sync it, nothing registers. If I have time, I'll consider rewriting it with the app open so it shows up on the page.
2) Then there's the issue of the handwriting showing on the page, but the AI saying that the page has no content. It suggests I write something first and then try again. Meanwhile I can see the page full of text right there in the app.
3) The AI feature can be rather frustrating, but I suspect that's more up to the creators of the AI, than the XNote company themselves who are simply enterprise customers.
4) Today I discovered a feature to help with the offline sync. I REALLY wish there had been some communication of this option via a dialog box, email, update description in the app store, literally anything. Turns out that in the Settings menu, you can scroll down and see something called Offline Sync History. The name doesn't do it justice. This is an area where you can see offline sessions that are saved to the pen. DESPITE their insistence that the system will automatically sync with the pen's offline sessions when you connect it again, I found I had to go to this section of the Settings menu to get those offline sessions to sync. They were all just waiting there, for me to confirm which notebook I wanted to add them to do they could be saved. Ridiculous. This is technically one way to automatically sync, find it did register my writing in he app, technically but at a practical level it doesn't work if we don't know to do it!!
5) I could also complain about the fact that it seems logical that the pen would know which notebook to sync to given that it knows the page numbers of the notebook and where I left off in the notebook last time, but I think I'll leave that topic alone for now. Okay, fine: I would expect each notebook to have some sort of identifier or something on each page in addition to page numbers. Syncing multiple notebooks would be a really big hassle otherwise. Very shortsighted design if that's the case.

Crashes every time
This could be the greatest tech there is. I would suggest creating a parallel app that can incorporate voice . Please fix the app right now it’s just a glorified notebook that works once in a blue moon
Very Clever and Helpful Device
For anyone who still feels there is improved retention of material when notes are handwritten, this might be the device for you. XNote has ironed out most of the bugs and the device now reliably captures handwritten notes, converts them to text, and has a few interesting Ai features that are useful. For the future I hope that the Ai possibilities will expand. I also prefer lay flat notebooks and hope they will offer these in the future.

Now I have a searchable BuJo
1.0.0 and 1.0.1 had a lot of issues with synch, freezing in AI, and a sadly lacking UI. Much was fixed in 1.0.2. However, the current 1.1.5 version loses data worse than any previous version. Offline sync fails 100% of the time for me. I’ve now abandoned this app.
