About
Zuniz is a map and a community for people who explore the places everyone else forgot.
Abandoned factories, closed hospitals, derelict theme parks, old bunkers, empty hotels. Places with a history and a story. Zuniz started as a website built by explorers, for explorers, and this app brings the full experience to iOS.
THE MAP Zuniz doesn't wait for someone to pin a location. Our scoring system combines multiple data sources, including OpenStreetMap's abandoned place markers, to surface potential abandoned locations wherever you look. Zoom into an area and the map scans it for you. Every location comes with an abandonment score and the reasons behind it, building information, a street view preview so you can see the place before you go, and estimated travel times by car, bike, or foot.
Filter by location type such as industrial, residential, or commercial, set your score range, and adjust the search radius around you. Found something worth a trip? Save it, label it, and build your exploration list.
THE FEED Scroll through what the community has been finding. Full-screen photos from explores around the world, one after another. It's the easiest way to discover locations you didn't know existed and explorers whose work you'll want to follow.
THE COMMUNITY Zuniz isn't just data on a map. Follow explorers whose finds you like. Comment on locations and photos, ask questions, share what you know. Send direct messages to plan explores together or trade info. Like and save the spots and shots that stick with you.
SHARE YOUR EXPLORES Upload your own photos and locations. Document a place before it disappears, because that's half of what this hobby is about. Some of the buildings on Zuniz don't exist anymore, and the photos our community took are the only record left that they were ever there.
A NOTE ON SAFETY AND RESPECT Urban exploration comes with real responsibility. Zuniz is a documentation and community platform, provided for informational purposes. We don't encourage anyone to enter places they don't have permission to access. Respect private property and posted signs, know your local laws, explore with a partner when you can, take nothing but photos, and never risk your safety for a shot. The community here takes "leave it as you found it" seriously, and we expect you to as well.
Whether you've been exploring for a decade or you've just discovered that the world is full of doors most people walk past, Zuniz is where you'll find your people.
See you out there.
