Good Idea, Buggy App

This app is incredibly buggy. I used it on Apple TV. It has this “play trailer” or “play video” feature when hovering over a show or movie, yet it doesn’t turn off when you actually start the content or exit the player and navigate around. The left side menu doesn’t always trigger when you want it to, I often found myself exiting the app rather than being able to back out of the video player. It didn’t display a lot of my subtitles. The player doesn’t respond to my attempts to fast forward or rewind. And the worst thing about all of this is that there’s a subscription service tied to this app. It features things like creating ready made live video channels and the overseers integration that I get charging for, but they also charge a subscription fee to watch your own videos from your own server at 4k. That I just don’t understand. The idea of the app is great. One modern Plex client that has Seerr built in, can give you that live tv stuff but with your own media, and a music app? sounds great, but this app is a buggy mess. So much so that this great idea comes crashing down

Awesome

Just got the pro version and so far I’m loving it, beautiful layout. Very smooth

App is buggy, massive features every few days

Developer has claimed to be an experienced swift developer. As a developer here it’s sorta hard to believe with the type of bugs that this app has. Users report a bug -> bug fixed -> dev drops new big update -> old bug regressions constantly.

This is a junior engineer at best who needs to own up to their development practices. Normal users don’t mind or notice occasional bugs. That’s why buggy apps are accepted. But that doesn’t make it okay when the developer charges as much as major competition with next to 0 regression testing. If you’re going to code with AI at least understand regression testing and build out a real framework with your robot of choice.

Response from developer

Hello there, Sorry to hear you’re having issues, your review was sent based on the pre-release version of the app and I suggest you update. Many bug fixes come with every update. I’m sure you’ll understand that an application like this that supports multiple different platforms, supporting various different environments, networks/media servers etc., brings various bugs that may not be present within other environments. I’d love for you to let me know the issues you’re experiencing either via the support section of the app or by emailing support@zunoplayer.app so I can help.

Awesome

Only complaint is that marking shoes and movies doesn’t work for me. But amazing otherwise

Buggy mess

This app is extremely buggy. The dev claims they only use AI for tab completion but then shops features extremely quickly. They are not bug tested. Additionally, the seerr integration shows content that is inappropriate for children on children’s profiles. Unacceptable.

Developer needs to dogfood features

Too many features too quickly and the developer hasn’t written enough functional tests to actually ensure they’re even near bug free. May be relying on people to report bugs instead. Feels like a rushed App Store release.

top alternative to plex native

up front, you can tell this is still a work in progress. but also that it’s a passion project. this fills gaps left by the current plex native app, but also by the new plex experience app, and by infuse (as the common alternative). it marries the modern feel of the new plex experience, the technical prowess of infuse, the simplicity of the current plex app, and the customization of old school video apps. can’t wait to see it grow and keep getting better!

Already excellent, only getting better

I’ve spent countless hours looking for a Plex client that truly feels at home on Apple TV. Zuno is the first one that has genuinely made me stop looking.

The interface is polished, the player is excellent, it’s already highly configurable, and development moves at an astonishing pace, with updates arriving almost daily.

What really stands out, though, is Nathan. Feedback is genuinely welcomed and clearly helps shape the app, and I’ve been continually impressed by how responsive and engaged he is. That’s surprisingly rare and incredibly refreshing to see.

There are still a few features I’d personally love to see added, but the foundations are excellent and the direction of travel is incredibly promising. Highly recommended.

Great

Fully functional Jellyfin client with Liquid Glass and a native IOS feel.

Fantastic

Best looking Plex player out there. Awesome developer too, amazing how far it’s come and it’s on a great path. Worth it for sure

Amazing app!

Hands down the best media player for plex on the market. Dev is amazing and always listening to feedback/improving things. The app is clean and plays all file formats.. Get on it!!

Functional & Beautiful

I’ve been using Zuno since beta and the developer is so dedicated and responsive, I’m not surprised how great the live app is. My JellyFin server looks absolutely beautiful in this app and that’s only enhanced by how much I can customize the home page. On top of that, great little features like downloads, sleep timers, Zuno Live (schedule like live tv!), and more. *And* pro doesn’t gatekeep playing any media, just provides some fun extras.
