Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: Solitaire at 4.6 against Virtual Cities's 3.0. Solitaire also leads on ratings volume (64 vs 2). Virtual Cities's advantage is in-app purchases (none vs 3) and ads (none vs shown). On price, update cadence and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Solitaire sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $0.99 per month. Virtual Cities asks for nothing beyond the download.
Solitaire holds the better App Store score, 4.6 against 3.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Solitaire has 64 ratings behind it against 2, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 73% of Solitaire's written reviews are positive against 100% of Virtual Cities's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Solitaire ships an update every 3 months, Virtual Cities every 5 months. The most recent releases landed on October 29, 2026 and October 18, 2026 respectively.
