Verdict

The call

The clearest difference is rating: Wiley Reader at 4.8 against SocialCue's 4.0. Wiley Reader also leads on in-app purchases (none vs 1) and ratings volume (1.1K vs 7). On price, review sentiment, ads and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. SocialCue sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Wiley Reader asks for nothing beyond the download.

ReceptionRating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings

Wiley Reader holds the better App Store score, 4.8 against 4.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Wiley Reader has 1.1K ratings behind it against 7, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 50% of SocialCue's written reviews are positive against 47% of Wiley Reader's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

UpkeepUpdate frequency

SocialCue ships an update every 3 months, Wiley Reader every 5 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 9, 2026 and October 7, 2026 respectively.
