Verdict
The clearest difference is review sentiment: Service Inspector at 80% against HitWave's 20%. Service Inspector also leads on iOS requirement (13.0 vs 15.6). HitWave's advantage is rating (2.5 vs 2.1) and ratings volume (591 vs 7). On price, update cadence, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
HitWave holds the better App Store score, 2.5 against 2.1. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: HitWave has 591 ratings behind it against 7, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 80% of Service Inspector's written reviews are positive against 20% of HitWave's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Service Inspector ships an update every 3 weeks, HitWave every 2 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 21, 2026 and October 19, 2026 respectively.
