Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: Grid # at 4.6 against Gesture Drawing's 3.7. Grid # also leads on ratings volume (10K vs 21) and update cadence (every 3 months vs every 7 months). Gesture Drawing's advantage is in-app purchases (none vs 1) and review sentiment (86% vs 66%). On price, ads and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Grid # sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Gesture Drawing asks for nothing beyond the download.
Grid # holds the better App Store score, 4.6 against 3.7. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Grid # has 10K ratings behind it against 21, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 66% of Grid #'s written reviews are positive against 86% of Gesture Drawing's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Grid # ships an update every 3 months, Gesture Drawing every 7 months. The most recent releases landed on October 24, 2026 and October 21, 2026 respectively.
