ACN/PCN Calculator The Ultimate Pavement Strength Tool for Aviation Professionals The ACN/PCN Calculator is your go-to app for evaluating the bearing strength of airport pavements, designed specifically for pilots, flight operations engineers, dispatchers, and airport operators. Whether you’re dealing with flexible or rigid pavements, this app ensures precise calculations to verify safe operations on runways, taxiways, and aprons. By leveraging the ICAO ACN/PCN method, as outlined in Annex 14 and Document 9157 Part 3, the calculator simplifies complex computations, helping you determine the maximum allowable aircraft weight with confidence. Why Choose the ACN/PCN Calculator? • Comprehensive Aircraft Database: Data is sourced from manufacturers’ publications, including the Aircraft Characteristics for Airport Planning (ACAP) manuals. Where necessary, ICAO-recommended methods or alternative sources ensure accuracy. • User-Friendly Design: Optimized for iPhone 8+ screens and fully compatible with iPads, the interface is intuitive and easy to navigate. Supported Aircraft Models Our extensive database includes popular aircraft from leading manufacturers: A300BeK/B4/B4-600R, A319, A320, A321, A330 (all variants), A340 (all variants), A350 (all variants), A380. Radar Performance
This application calculates the geometry of aircraft weather radar beams relative to Earth, the freezing level, and the "bright band" for optimal weather detection. It identifies areas on the radar display where the beam is too high or low for effective weather detection and highlights potential ground returns.
- Calculates weather radar beam geometry
- Considers Earth and freezing level
- Identifies optimal detection altitudes
- Shows areas of ineffective beam coverage
- Highlights potential ground returns
- Supports various radar models

Radar Performance calculates the geometry of aircraft weather radar beams with respect to the earth, the freezing level, and the band of altitudes that provide the maximum weather radar returns (the "bright band"). It also shows the areas on the radar display where the beam is too high or low to effectively detect active weather and areas where you may see ground returns. Radar Performance also includes an Overfly mode for confirming that the tops of lower-level convective weather remain safely below your aircraft. You choose a safe clearance altitude and a tactical range, and the app calculates the radar tilt at which the bottom of the beam just reaches that altitude at that range. With this tilt set, any weather returns indicate that the tops have penetrated your safety margin, so going around the weather is advised. Overfly mode is available at aircraft altitudes of 15,000 ft and above, and is inspired by Tom McGrath's "Snowplow" technique. Radar Performance supports a variety of weather radar models as well as a "generic" model. It is not specific to any aircraft type.

Verdict
The clearest difference is review sentiment: Radar Performance at 100% against ACN/PCN Calculator's 45%. Radar Performance also leads on in-app purchases (none vs 26) and rating (5.0 vs 4.6). ACN/PCN Calculator's advantage is ratings volume (142 vs 3). On price, update cadence, ads and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. ACN/PCN Calculator sells 26 one-off in-app purchases. Radar Performance asks for nothing beyond the download.
Radar Performance holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.6. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: ACN/PCN Calculator has 142 ratings behind it against 3, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews point the same way: 45% of ACN/PCN Calculator's written reviews are positive against 100% of Radar Performance's.
Both ship on a similar rhythm, roughly every 2 months. The most recent releases landed on August 13, 2026 and September 9, 2026 respectively.
